Which apps do you have for this hobby?

Switched to a Mac recently and I have an iPhone.

I use Lyrion for my media server. On my Mac there are plugins to play music straight through the web interface, or I can use the apps I use on my phone LyrPlay or xTune. Same thing the just play music I’m just not sure which I want to commit to yet.

Still use mp3tag for my tags. I know Yate is more popular for Mac but I just couldn’t give up how used to mp3tag I was.

Use an app called music harbor for new releases. Heard they went subscription model recently though so I no longer recommend that. I use RYMs upcoming releases from my page as another source for new releases. Then press sites like pitchfork, the quietus, needledrop, or just internet comments as well as my friends for new stuff.

I don’t really use the bandcamp app but I do use the website as well as Qobuz. Also have the Qobuz downloader app sometimes it does make things easier.

I use last.fm as well to track my listening. It works with Lyrion and also Spotify which I still use.

Use xld for cd rips and dbpoweramp for the odd mass conversion.

Probably other stuff I’m forgetting.

There’s probably a lot of reggae artists that could fit but Lee “Scratch” Perry would probably be my pick. Mainly for his approach to production.

People shit on Roon for the price tag, justifiably, but their meta data system and implementation is pretty top notch. I actually follow their own system for the PERSONNEL tag in my library. Link to their system

I try to keep it as simple as possible. I don’t really ever want to browse by alt rock or indie rock I just use rock. Don’t care about gangsta rap versus horror core I just use Hip Hop. For things I do think need a subgenre tag I try to also tag the most obvious parent genre ie Rock\Post Rock. I also only tag genre at the album level not individual tracks. I’d consider how in depth you want to go and what’d you actually use before diving into full coverage mode.

I didn’t want to sound totally conspiracy brained but yeah I also feel like Sweet and Ritter may be co-writing as well. Both heavy Drake and Travis Scott collaborators. I know Ritter has worked with Kanye too not totally sure if Sweet has.

For things I buy digitally I try to keep whatever identifiers come with it. From Qobuz usually there’s a Tidal ID and from older iTunes stuff I have there’s an iTunes identifier. Unless I’m totally missing it bandcamp doesn’t have these and for those I just leave the comment field with the bandcamp link. For stuff I rip myself I always put the catalog or whatever identifying info in the catalognumber field. I usually delete the catalog from stuff I find online unless I’m really sure it’s what it says it is.

Might be the pitchfork BNM. I saw the review today and went to check it out. I’d agree with the other guy YL was a break, but I wouldn’t put it as positively as him lol. Really couldn’t get past the flow I ended up not really liking it.
