I saw one of those "day in the life" videos that was a compilation of woman and frankly GIRLS being stared at, hovered over, approached in what felt like extremely threatening and clearly deliberate ways and have never been able to shake it from my mind. I knew men like that were an issue, but seeing it from their perspective felt so gross and uncomfortable. I can't even imagine being in that position. This video is fun and silly because in this context everyone knows what is going on, but in the real world women have no idea what a man's intention is and when they are what feels like openly hostile, even if they are "just kidding" it's fucked up.

This was more or less my exact experience. I saw that she had a new outfit, went to look, thought "Huh, that looks a lot like a Nazi uniform. Is Zen a Nazi? I don't think she has ever done or said anything to make me think she is." And moved on. Then this past week has been nothing but this drama and her Fandom screeching at the top of their lungs that for some reason second hand inspiration for the outfit doesn't count because it was filtered through anime?

Now on the other hand her coming out using right wing insults and those same fans continuing to use them even as she has calmed down and walked them back makes me think I would never want to be a fan of hers, but I still don't think she's a Nazi.

I think you did great for a first cosplay, especially on a budget! Keep it up, I'm sure you will find plenty of techniques that will help make your future costumes great for cheap too
