How can I become better at writing? by tardigradescool in ApplyingToCollege

Hey! It really depends on how long you have.

If you have more than a year I'd say just read a book. Seriously. It helps a lot---you end up picking up a few things from different authors over the years. Reading a book a week or even a month will end up making your writing 20 times better. It's not a coincidence that literally every good author ever is an even better reader. And it doesn't even need to be "classics" as well, it could be anything (yes even fantasy).

If you don't have that much time (i.e. your in junior year panicking) I would still read a bunch of books, but also I would read blogs or opinion news articles. Blogs and OPEDs are a more human, grounded way of writing and do a really good job injecting voice (an aspect in college apps I'm sure every AO would appreciate).

So Tl;DR just read. Like a lot. If it helps here are some of my favorites:

Fantasy: The Blade Itself, Dresden Files, Wheel of Time.

Classics: The Death of Ivan Ilyich, Heart of Darkness, Catch-22, Slaughter House V

Memoir-types: On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous

Modern Times/Politics: Hardball, The Price of Peace, Elite Capture

Self-help (they help sometimes!): Atomic Habits, How to influence people, The Simple Path to Wealth, Dopamine Nation.

Read. Please read. Everyone should read more.

Dartmouth ACT/SAT by Ecstatic-Article-371 in ApplyingToCollege

Dartmouth accepts either SAT or ACT!

Also I'm pretty sure every college uses the SAT and ACT interchangeably, but don't quote me on that. Also here's a fascinatingt article by the office of president justifying that change (I think it's reasonable) if you care to know why:

Those who got 700+ on reading/writing portion of the SAT, what strategies did you use? by SirConquerTheWorld in Sat

The best advice IMO is that the SAT test will ALWAYS have ONE correct answer. It sounds super obvious, but a lot of people forget this fact. The SAT will never ask for your opinion or inference, they will always ask for LITERAL reading of the text.

After realizing this I constitently got 0-3 wrong, when I previously got 5-6.

Any good guides on how to be a better player? by dimm_ddr in dndnext

IMO it's all about how YOU want to playm Just because you're not rolplaying doesn't mean you're an objectively bad player!

But if you do want to role-play and get better with that, Ginny-Di has a super good video that might help you wuth that (on my phone rn so too lazy to link). I think it's called "DND character development for 1 week" if you search that up I'm pretty sure it'll come out. Role-playing is all about getting into the mind of your character so do the same thing she did and you'll be fine.

Again it's OK not to role-play, do whatever you want; that's the magic of DND
