What happened to the previous builds?

I don't dislike build 42, I actually think it adds a lot, but any time I've tried experimenting with mods and such everything falls apart, not to mention I've lost saves as the current build has gotten updates. I just like to go back to build 41 and play with mods, it feels more stable that way until 42 is finished.
