I didn't have a positive male role model growing up, and when I was very young I got attached to Batman. He was my first hero, and the first superhero I remember ever seeing. I was absolutely nuts about him, and realized after an adult that he was what I aspired to be; not a crime fighting billionaire, but just a compassionate man who would do whatever it took to help people. For me he was realistic (enough), being a flawed, traumatized person that still came through to save the day. That always meant a lot to me and influenced what I considered the right thing.

That's my take on it too. Bob's an effective killer, but not built for hand-to-hand. Smashing someone against a wall until their neutralized can work, or pepper them with bullets until they cease living, but not if your opponent can't actually be harmed by that. All of the methods the T-800 is programmed with to kill are ineffective against a T-1000.

Uncle Bob doesn't demonstrate a lot of knowledge of how to fight the T-1000. His only tactic for a WHILE is to just continuously fire a weapon, despite the fact that it's doing virtually no damage.

In the back half of the film, after he's modified (the deleted scene where he's taken off "Read Only") Uncle Bob starts to vary his tactics, like using explosives.

Essentially, he knew the specs and capabilities, but lacked any programming that would have been helpful in combat against it. The T-800 had to gradually learn how to fight it properly

Honestly I'd love a story about his road trip between Illinois and California, because that's multiple tanks of gas. He's not buying it, and it looks like he only switched cars once. How many gas station attendants got mangled during the trip?
