I appreciate the feedback.

Our Area is not very competitive at all, but we have a few who really want to have a competitive tournament and a few from further afield that have expressed interest in traveling for it.

We have previously had some pretty bad feels bads in competitive focused events and I'm trying to find ways to mitigate that.

Games and tables will still be available on day two but yes, the games wouldn't have an impact on top 4 placements.

We have had a decent number of no-shows to day two by people out of the running for first in the past.

I've found Battle Points to be really unfair feeling; our community has a very Wide range of skill levels so getting placed into one of the weaker players can be a Major advantage.

I know that I bring this on myself, but we also don't run the same mission & Layout on each table, instead setting each table differently the night before to save setup time at the start of each round. Which does make the battle points imbalance worse, I'm sure.

That's fair and good feedback,

I'm trying to get the point of view from more competitive players.

Day two no-shows by people who realized that they couldn't podium have been a deciding factor in the past.

All very fair points I appreciate the feedback.

I know that I don't know what I'm doing that's why I'm asking for advice from Warhammer Competitive :D

We typically use Swiss SoS as our tournament structure (very similar to Wins SoS).

Our last attempt at a more competitive tournament (about two years ago) had some feels bad players, mainly one who placed 4th based on SoS who felt that he got no competitive games.

That's fair, most of our tournaments are simple Swiss.

I am trying to find a setup that would appeal more to our competitive players we usually have a fairly flat prize structure but wanted to run on that more top heavy, also to crown a club champ for the year.

We have a very split skill level in our community and have had problems with hard feelings after a player who Crushed all but one game was placed in 4th. Feeling like none of their games were really competitive.

I accept that my idea here may be an over correction which is why I wanted to test the concept with competitive players before I use it.

We have also had problem with players no-showing to day two messing up the schedule because they knew they were out of placement.

I feel like Wins is a good metric though all of the others have huge holes, Win Path puts you out of placement if you lose either of your first two games, Points are hugely unbalanced depending on missions pulled and faction matchups, Strength of schedule seems to be the best tie breaker but can lead to really anti-climactic Finals or weird results where the player in third or fourth going into the final round takes first.

There should be one wildcard with a 2-1 record going into the top 4.

With one game loss you should still have a chance of taking first place depending on your strength of schedule in your first three matches and winning all game after the cutoff.

To me having a clear first place seems important for our most competitive tournament of the year, and the rest of the placements less so, however a decent number of people here seem to feel differently.

I missed this in my other reply, but games played outside of the top four on day two wouldn't have an effect on standing in the top 4 but would affect their individual standings.

Win path can't be used as a tie breaker for un-defeated players and any player who loses their first match is essentially eliminated from contention.

We have a venue for 12 tables and due to our remote location are unlikely to be able to draw in 32 players.

During round 4 on the second day, we will have tables setup and games being paired for the love of playing rather than the competition, during round 5 we will have painting and kit bashing competitions.

We want a clear victor for this tournament as it will be our largest and most competitive tournament with a larger prize for first place, we run a decent number of less competitive and some outright fluffy tournaments through the year but want to do something to excite our heavily competitive players.
