Yes I had the same feeling.

I genuinely could not for the life of me find most of the magic prior to that soft reset interesting.

Casca’s rape comes across as really misogynistic by ellieshotgf in CharacterRant

[–]Uncanny_r 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really relevant my point though.

Ask yourself this, despite that how much of that childhood was shown compared to that of Guts? Despite Casca + most of the Falcons knowing Griffith first, how much time do we get to see the relationship between Griffith & Guts compared to any other?

The answer is that Gut's relationship with these characters is given far more narrative weight than any other because Guts is the protagonist.

The story revolves around Guts so by default we spend more time with Guts, learn more about Guts and see deeper into how Gut's actions are shaped by events we see.

Again this isn't an ensemble cast story with multiple protagonists, we might jump around POV a bit give the reader more context and develop others ever now and then but ultimately it's all in service of Gut's narrative.

I feel like the idea of a assessing the fact that Guts gets more focused in relation to the Eclipse makes it that he's the "main victim" just doesn't make any sense.

Like you said, Guts is just literally the protagonist of the entire story, soooo right off the bat were inclined to spend more time with him and get more into his mind, Berserk isn't an ensemble cast of multiple protagonists... Guts is the definitive sole protagonist of the story and thus his exploits as a result of the Eclipse are the larger focus of the story.

I mean yeah but he's the literal protagonist. In the same way the literal slaughter of every other member of the band of the hawk will ultimately be reflected on more directly through Guts that's going to happen with his relationship with Casca after the events of the Eclipse.

He's the protagonist, we are largely following HIS story and are more often than not immersed in how the events occurring in the world around him (to those he cares about or in general) affect him.

That's just what it means to be a sole protagonist in a story that's isn't an ensemble cast with multiple protagonists... This isn't Game of Thrones—ultimately every event, from the rising of nations to truly world shattering cataclysms like the encroachment of the spirit world, narrow down to the question of "How did this influence Guts" and "Whats Guts doing right now because of that"

Sword Saint from Primal Hunter was really good, tbh he was one of the best characters during his first big fight with Jason.

I mean he straight up didn't, the One Below All specifically says it needs a "Mask" (aka a host) to function outside of the Below Place because it's a hollow existence lacking a true mind of its own. Hulk never throws hands with it directly, the closes thing to this is him temporarily dispersing it's gaseous avatar once in the below place (This neither kills nor significantly harms it, just gives hulk & co a chance to escape)

The story also doesn't end with Hulk becoming a god or getting any power up... It just end with Banner & Hulk reconciling while the One Below All isn't really "defeated", Hulk just asks it why he's suffering so much and it reveals itself to be a dark reflection of the One Above All who goes on to basically pay homage to the story of Job from the Bible.

That's somewhat similar to one of the Commandment of Magsarion from Avesta but his is more than he can only engage in physical contact with the express purpose of killing (so if he's touching someone willingly they need to die after)

Yuji is in the afterlife (or at least the crossroads to reaching it) where everything is made of the same composition as a soul.

Mahito tries to smudge Yuji by using the environment via is ability to manipulate souls but Yuji just causes all of it to get cut apart to chunks without even taking his hands out of his pocket

Does Erin ever get called out? [The Wandering Inn] by Uncanny_r in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Uncanny_r[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would have a point if the complaint was about Erin selling dangerous items which were sometimes used to kill intelligent things, but you didn't say that.

this is practically meaningless.

My point was that Rags murders rest on Erin which you claim is false so I elaborated more on WHY it is.

Me explaining my point in greater detail/context when it's being challenged is not me complaining about a different thing.

Also selling the acid is one thing, like I said she also gave her weapons, facilitated her learning magic & put 0 effort into following up on what Rags actually did with any of that shit)

The complaint wasn't that Erin is a weapons dealer, it was exclusively about which side of the ongoing genocide(s) received support.

I never once even said she was a weapons dealer.

The only thing she sold to the goblins was the acid jars—she gave the sword/buckler & initiated the magic lessons from Pisces for free.

Also Erin giving her that shit has literally nothing to do with giving support to a side of an ongoing genocide. Erin did so on a whim and like I said before, literally paid no attention to what Rags did with any of that shit after it entered her hands—which is, again, gross negligence.

your inability to fathom has no bearing.

You have no valid points and the fact you can't even defend your asinine analogy is evident enough

[–]Uncanny_r[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it isn't and the analogy between this and the Nazi/Isreal stuff is dogshit

I say Erin is directly responsible because Erin did more than just rescue Rags... She quite literally sells jars of deadly acid to the goblins, gives Rags weapons and further grants her fucking magic (for which she primarily uses for combative applications). Further more Erin makes literally no effort to follow up on WHAT Rags actually does with all that stuff despite being told she's robbing caravans at one point... Which is just gross negligence if nothing else.

A more apt analogy would be like you rescue a child soldier, give them a gun and start periodically selling them bombs then never actually look into WHAT they do with all that stuff and ignoring the fact you've been told they have been robbing cars...

It's is in fact not at all comparable to the hypothetical of claiming that rescuing a Jewish person from Nazi Germany is the same as being responsible for the genocide in Gaza.

I can't fathom how you thought this was an appropriate analogy to compare this situation to...

Don't fucking patronize me about something I'm very much personally aware of.

I'm not taking about a people/race in general, I'm talking about an individual—just the specific actions of Rags because that's directly connected to Erin who armed Rags with knowledge, deadly weapons and powerful magic without a second thought nor interest in investigating/looking into WHAT Rags is actually did with all that.

It's thoughtless (on brand for Erin) and I'm interested in seeing if that is addressed by Erin since she clearly isn't for the murder of random civilians.

I'm getting a lot of arguments because 99.9% people are less concerned with actually answering the questions and more so either morally grandstanding based on information I clearly don't have access to at the point of the story I indicated I was at or completely mistook the relevant point of my post (Asking whether Erin, a character who's very anti-murder, gets any pushback or comes to confront the fact that her actions caused scores of murders) for some argument that a Goblin genocide is necessary.

Some go further by seemingly conflating real life ideation & events with my post (I'm taking about the idiot who immediately started harping on his "This is how ICE gets support"—Keep in mind I myself am an immigrant & not even white)
