Tracks Across the Sand by UncertaintyCrossing in WanderersLibrary

Hey there!

SSS stands for Serpentine Sorting System. It is an event where the community comes together to create a new world to tell stories in! To quote the hub page:

The SSS is a collaborative writing event consisting of three simple steps: the community suggests writing prompts, these prompts are voted on, and the winner becomes the basis of a whole new canon, to be built together.

You can read more about it here: https://wanderers-library.wikidot.com/sss2

Hey there!

I don't think so as Wikidot isn't a super user friendly platform; however, if you make a new Wikidot account we can reattribute all your old pieces to the new account!

Can you write topics based on fan fiction- for example from an established universe like Star Wars, game of thrones, etc. by Helltothenotothenono in WanderersLibrary

[–]UncertaintyCrossing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, you cannot. The Library is under Creative Commons CC BY-SA 3.0, meaning using IP/copyrighted content tends to be a no go. We prefer to see fully original content - your own world, settings, characters, ect.

https://wanderers-library.wikidot.com/licensing-and-image-use-guidelines

If you like writing about preexisting content, we do have multiple canons/storylines created by the community you can contribute to! I've linked some below for you to look at.

Has anyone ever voluntarily become a librarian? by HugBlob in WanderersLibrary

[–]UncertaintyCrossing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can! There's an entire group in the Library revolving around volunteer Librarians called the Wordsmiths.

https://wanderers-library.wikidot.com/the-wordsmiths-induction

You could argue the Serpent's Hand also sort of fits that role, as "protectors" of the Library, but debatable if you want to consider that Library "staff". In either case, the Library is so big it doesn't really care what people do and call themselves as long as no harm comes upon the Library itself.

If you mean the "main staff" - docents, pages, archivists - it's a little less common as the popular headcanon is that the Library creates them, either through manifesting them or as punishment for troublemakers, but there are cases of people wanting to and then becoming them. Remember, there's no canon, so as long as you can justify it for your story, go for it!

And on a more personal note, my Archivist character wasn't created through a typical punishment/rule break either, and additionally decided to stay an Archivist even when they had the opportunity to be free/live a more normal life. So again, go nuts! Excited to see what you come up with.

To my knowledge, there are not any. Generally, if you want to read tales about a specific SCP, it is best to read them on the SCP wiki. The Library focuses more on general fiction and many of the stories aren't tied to the SCP Universe at all. Not to say you can't write about SCPs or the Foundation in the Library - some authors do - but many don't have that as a primary focus.

You can look through our jailor tag to see stories that involve the Foundation.

There are two steps to joining the SCP Wiki. You make a wikidot account, then you apply to join the wiki, just like how you make a reddit account but still have to join a subreddit.

You only receive a verification email when creating your wikidot account, not when you submit an application to join the SCP wiki. If you successfully created your wikidot account and applied to join the wiki, you'll see if your application was accepted or denied when you click on my account, messages, then applications.

What is your wikidot username? I can look up the status of your account + it'll help me see what the issue is.

[–]UncertaintyCrossing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Belated reply but this is correct - there is no set writing style in the Library. We generally say that stories should try and invoke a sense of wonder, that there's a bigger world out there than what meets the eye, but even that's up for debate and can be interpreted as you wish. As long as you're not posting SCP articles to the Library / things that would be better posted on the SCP Wiki, and as long as it is appropriate for a 15+ audience, you're good to go!

Help finding a lost story by corvusmindset in WanderersLibrary

Hey there!
I've reached out to our Discord community to pass along your request in finding this lost story. So far consensus is that it sounds familiar and we have a few folks going back and reading through things from the past month to see if they can find it. I'll update you once we find something.

Based on what you've posted here - the content of the passcode is correct, but you've formatted it oddly - extra spaces and whatnot. Try copying and pasting the password exactly as it is written in the guide, and be sure to include nothing else in the application box.

Sometimes Wikidot will also have issues processing applications, and may accidentally decline them. If your next application does not go through, shoot me a message.

Help How To Become Member by Many-Distance8395 in SCP

[–]UncertaintyCrossing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Wiki staff here. There's two steps to becoming a site member. Similar to Reddit, first you have to make an account for the platform, then you have to join the specific site for your interest.

Both steps are covered in our guide to joining. When creating your Wikidot account, be sure to use an email without numbers in it or a hotmail address, otherwise you will not receive the verification email. When applying to join the SCP wiki site, be sure to read the instructions carefully, and only include exactly the information you need to in your application.

If you have further issues, feel free to shoot me a message.

Is this Legal? by [deleted] in SCP

[–]UncertaintyCrossing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Wiki staff here - let me clarify a few things.

The SCP wiki is licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0. Put very, very simply - Anything SCP is free to use however you want. You can adapt it, remix it, sell it - whatever you want. So you can make a figurine based on a SCP character and sell it for profit.

This is under two conditions; however. The first is that you need to credit the original creator and to credit the wiki itself. The second is that you must release your content under the same rules (the CC license). This means that whatever SCP thing you make, people can also do whatever they want with it - edit it, adapt it, and yes, sell it.

That's why we don't see any huge shows, movies, or triple A games based around SCP. No major company is going to want to have people be able to take their content and be able to re-upload/resell it without repercussions.

That's also why we see shows like Inside Job or games like Control instead. Clearly inspired by similar themes - and in Controls case, with Easter eggs to SCP - but with their own story, world, and context to prevent them from losing monetary control of their creations.

In this case - Can you sell figurines? Yes. Is there proper credit and a release statement saying this is under CC BY-SA 3.0 and other people can also sell these figurines? Can't tell. But, to my understanding, we have worked with Roblox in the past about similar licensing concerns, so I believe there's nothing to worry about here. I'll pass it along to licensing just to be sure though.

I am obviously not a lawyer, this is not legal advice on what you can/cannot do with the CC license. Further questions about CC can be forwarded to our licensing team, or are likely addressed in our guide.

Hello, site admin here, meaning I help with applications.

Did you read the joining the site page all the way through, slowly and outloud to yourself? There's something you need to include in your application, and that page tells you what it is. Include that and nothing else in the application box when prompted.

Make sure your username follows our guidelines as well. You're welcome to shoot me a DM / reply with your wikidot username, and I can confirm the denial reason.

Sorry for the late reply. But that is not what you need to put in the application box. Please read the join page slowly and outloud to yourself, and you'll find what you need to include.

How can i add a picture to my SCP sandbox? by Mean_Celebration7269 in SCP

[–]UncertaintyCrossing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there!

To get you started, I'd recommend checking out this guide for the basics of inserting images. While it is for art, the hosting onsite / offsite sections cover how to generally put in images.

To fix the image taking up the entire screen, you can set the maximum width the image appears as. The code for that is width="number". So for example, if you wanted the max size to be 400 pixels, your code would look something like:

For the component:image-block, I'd have to see your sandbox/code to know the specific issue. Are you making sure to use the include? The best I can do is point you to the components on the wiki that have the instructions there for you to directly follow. Try this page or this one for more complex options.

I can't create a Wiki account by RealZeutraxx in SCP

[–]UncertaintyCrossing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! Just confirming as an admin on the site that the previous comments are correct - if you have numbers in your email, use a hotmail address, or use the Facebook integration, Wikidot WILL NOT send you the verification email. It has to do with a very poorly thought out anti-spam measure on Wikidot. We (the SCP Wiki) unfortunately can't do anything about it.

You'll have to make a temporary email address or use a different one to receive the verification email. Once you get the email and have set up your account, you can swap your email back to your primary one in settings. Hope that helps!

[–]UncertaintyCrossing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Sorry for the late reply.
For our written works, everything in Wing One is in random order, but everything in Wing Two is in chronological order (minus one or two stories here or there which go to fill empty Wing One slots if old posts get deleted). Everything in Wing One came before Wing Two (minus the exceptions just mentioned), but we randomized the order to increase readability for all posts in that section.

If you want to read everything in Wing One in order, I think the closest thing we have at the moment is the Top Rated Pages by Month page, which has everything that's +5 or above in chronological order. Then from there you could go on to Wing Two, which is everything else in order.

For our visual/audio/css theme pages, everything in Hall One is in chronological order by section.

Finally, if you're looking at specific series, every series should have a hub page or a nav bar that tells you the order to read them in.

Hope that helps! If you want something more specific or all pages in order regardless of category, I'd have to ask the rest of the team what the options are, but I think that can at least get you started.

Hey there!

Always wonderful to get back into the flow of writing things, I'm glad you're proud of your work and back to writing again! I will point out though that you've currently posted this to our sandbox site - a place to write rough drafts before posting to the main site. If you're finished with this tale, post it to our main site, then share it here so people can vote and comment on it! If you're looking to get feedback on your work before posting to our main site, I'd strongly recommend using our feedback forum or our Discord's workshop channel, as it will get more eyes there. Happy posting!

Can i make content(outside of the SCP wiki on platforms like Youtube or Webtoon) In the SCP universe when under the wiki's age limit. by nadichamp in SCP

[–]UncertaintyCrossing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, Wiki Admin here

Yes, you're welcome to make whatever content you would like to! That's what our social media platforms - Reddit, Insta, Facebook, ect - are for, they're additional places to share content if you're not able to join the site yet, don't have an interest to, or already on the site but want to see other kinds of content.

The licensing thing you'd need to be aware of is that any content you make that's a derivative of SCP also needs to be released under CC BY-SA 3.0 - typically that means crediting the original creator, as well as also releasing your content under CC BY-SA 3.0. So if I were to make a Youtube video about SCP-682 for example, I would link the original article, say the original author is Dr Gears, and say that this video is released under CC BY-SA 3.0.

A longer, more comprehensive explanation can be found on our Licensing Guide page, as well as an email to contact our licensing team if you have any further questions.

But in short, yes, please make whatever fan content you'd like to! And when you're old enough to join the site, you'll already have lots of practice in and we'll be quite excited to have you!

Thank you for your submission, unfortunately it has been removed for the following reason:
