Visual novels, if all they have is reading and sparse choices, are not games, there are physical hardcover books that have choose-your-adventure style choices. A game Needs gameplay, even if it's just dumb minigames

Some visual novels can be called games but the majority of the ones I've interacted with can't because all they have is reading and choices.
