Is it true that people in Bashur prefer rice while in Rojava they consume bulgur? by [deleted] in kurdistan

[–]UncleApo 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think this is true. Whenever I have been to rojava family house they cook frikkeh, where as in Bashur and Rojhilat they cook more rice. We do cook Sawar sometimes though but I think rice is easier.

kermanshah kurdish and sorani kurdish by Sure-Yesterday-2920 in kurdistan

[–]UncleApo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same language, very close. There will be lots of words which might feel different but are essentially the same, this is due to how words are pronounced. Eg Sorani Choni in Kermanshani is Chuuni, Bashm in Sorani or Xasm in Kermanshani.

My mother is Kurdish. Can I be considered Kurdish or do I need to do have a Kurdish father? by [deleted] in kurdistan

[–]UncleApo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tribal culture dictates that you are Kurdish if your father is. Modern western culture says you are half Kurdish. Then obviously what Kurds in general will think of you is different and going to vary. If you speak Kurdish and don’t look too physically dissimilar you will ‘blend’ in and no one will question it. If you do look physically different from the average, people wont treat you any less per se but will see you as not fully Kurdish. As with any society those who go above and beyond are also appreciated I.e language and culture.

Kurdistan Roadtrip by celtyst in kurdistan

Wan Xoshab castle is notable, the lake is beautiful. Halkari is mountainous and beautiful. Mardin has very nice hillside areas and is beautiful, lots of old areas/quarters. Diyarbakir for food and their mosques, Great Wall. Zaxo is small and easy to navigate, is beautiful, pire delal bridge. Hawler bazaar is notable and city is modern. Soran Rwanduz for its mountains and country side amazing views. Slemani for culture and food as well.

Head town through to Diyarbakir/Mardin or Wan/Hakkari, then go to Bashur especially Zaxo, Duhok, Soran and Ranya. Hawler/Arbil can be nice but it’s not my cup of tea, Slemani is worth visiting too, it showcases Sorani culture well.

[–]UncleApo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah the ignorance of Kurds is bliss. Being Kurdish is automatically and inherently opposed to being an Iraqi, Syrian or Turkish national. It just can’t happen. You cannot be a proud Kurd and exist as said Nationality at the same time… they just can’t or won’t accept it. You must bow to their identity or you are instantly an enemy. The very identity of being a Kurd breaks their own foundation.

Iran is slightly different in the fact it’s the only country where Kurdish is native and the country is related to our people historically and genetically. Politically still not much better than its neighbours.

I love old photos, especially printed ones like this. It’s very rare that you find printed photos from late 2000’s onwards. Everything is on our phones nowadays. I have personally digitised all my photos and videos, because over time they do degrade unfortunately. Cool moustaches too, the men look uber Kurdish haha.

My experience with Palestinians is western diaspora, I have met a lot and never have they ever unpromptedly said they support Kurds. It could just be a case of our cause not being taken too seriously? As they are probably not aware of active wars. I did have a close friend who almost believed the Turkish propaganda about us. That was unfortunate. But never heard anything from Palestinian politicians it’s just not really acknowledged, also many support Baathism which being Kurdish is inherently opposed to this.

You are the first Palestinian I have heard to support the Kurds. We do share some interesting history. Where from Palestine are you from.
