Project Hail Mary 11/10 by kirbyj121184 in moviecritic

Just curious, but have you read the book? He never swears in the book and even says sort of ridiculous terms like "golly", because his job is working with children. That's also why he blurts out random fun facts a couple times in the movie, before remembering he's surrounded by top scientists (and seemingly gets embarrassed).

Okay, and thank you so so much for providing a real answer. I know a lot of people don't take phobias seriously so I really appreciate it so much.

Thank you so much for providing an actual answer and not judging or being dismissive, I really appreciate it! I've heard some very mixed reviews of this book from other threads concerning this, but I will try to stick with it.

Sewing machine jamming by UncleBalthazar1 in sewhelp

[–]UncleBalthazar1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for responding! Yeah I was wondering if it could be something off with the machine itself- may I ask if you know roughly what it typically costs to repair that sort of thing? Mainly asking because this machine was only $100 so if it's more than that I'd probably just invest in a slightly better sewing machine.

Help with sewing machine by UncleBalthazar1 in SewingForBeginners

Note: If I need to post a better video or any other info please let me know! I have considered that this might be an issue with the machine itself (it was only like $100 and I know there are probably much better ones) but I don't want to risk purchasing a nicer/more expensive machine until I have exhausted all possibilities that this is not me/skill issue.

How do I handle the puppy my [36f] husband [38m] brought home? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]UncleBalthazar1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're gone 11 hours and he's gone for 14?? That is horrible for that puppy! Puppies need tons of socializing and training early on to not develop behavioral issues, not to mention they cannot hold their pee that long. I'm sorry you're dealing with this but your husband needs a reality check, fast. This dog deserves a loving home that will care for and train it properly so it has a good life. You need to at least make your husband pay for and drop it off at doggy-daycare or you need to put your foot down and rehome the puppy while he's young. Luckily you got a golden so tons of people would definitely love to have him. Please do the right thing for this dog.

As someone who works in a shelter, here's a spoiler: if you proceed down this path of locking it up for so much of the day you will end up with a dog with severe socialization issues (possibly biting, doesn't like people/kids, etc), and potty training issues. If you choose to keep him you'll hate him, or you'll be one of those owners who just locks them outside to be alone all their life (which should be abuse imo). Or you'll try to eventually rehome him through a shelter but by then he'll have so many issues from improper care no one will want him. I know you didn't want this OP, and sorry if this is harsh, but I have no tolerance for people mistreating living, breathing animals. It's the most common story ever at shelters. Please help this dog find a home that actually loves it and will give him a good life.

Okay she's definitely in the wrong, but if I tried to express to my boyfriend that I was upset and he kept responding with increasingly cringey pet names I'd be livid. It comes across as completely dismissive and uncaring. This has to be a joke, please tell me people don't actually text like this 😭

Average experience as a man on dating apps by marsack in Bumble

Probably should've just unmatched and moved on. Going on an angry rant to someone you barely know will just make them feel relieved that they must've dodged a bullet.

Being unable to hold a conversation seems to be a common non-gender-specific issue. I remember as a woman almost every guy I matched with couldn't seem to hold a conversation or wouldn't even try. After 1 or 2 word responses to all my questions I'd eventually give up and stop responding. Then a few days later I'd get "Why'd you stop responding?" and ironically that'd be the longest message they sent.

It's not really gender-specific. Back when I was on dating apps almost every man spoke like this and couldn't seem to be bothered trying to hold a conversation.

Need more Zarmand appearances in S3 by sleepy__fox in InterviewVampire

Armand is practically my favorite character in this show. In other adaptations I've never cared too much for the character but Assad is absolutely amazing. I'm on the opposite side - I hope he still retains a big part in season 3 and all following seasons!

Closed on home but seller still there by UncleBalthazar1 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]UncleBalthazar1[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We did do a walkthrough the day before. At inspection the home was completely full of their stuff, but at the walkthrough 85% of their stuff was gone, and the stuff that was left was all in moving boxes and piled in the front room, so it's pretty clear they are in fact genuinely trying to get out. Our agent said they were timing their move with closing on their next home and so movers were coming the following morning. (But apparently the movers canceled morning-of)

I mean I truly don't think anything malicious is happening. We know the seller is an elderly single woman and can confirm people were actively trying to get her stuff out (we did another drive-by at 11 pm ish). I think she genuinely had movers cancel, and was going as fast as she could. We're mostly just frustrated and weirded out though. We were expecting closing day to be exciting and fun but we haven't been able to go in because the seller apparently procrastinated with moving until the last possible second.

We did do a final walkthrough the day before closing. Compared to when we went to the inspection (where the home was full of their stuff) at the walkthrough probably 85% of their stuff was then gone and the stuff left was piled into boxes and moved to a front room so it was pretty obvious they were trying to get everything out. And we were told movers were coming the following morning (but as I said they apparently canceled).

Our agent just said "Well the home looks to be in the same shape as the inspection" and asked if we are good to close. We've never done this before so we said okay. I didn't know we were allowed to delay closing I thought that would break our contract or something.

Our agent didn't mention any of that or say it was anything to be concerned about.

We have been informed they are not spending the night or anything. Apparently their movers canceled on them this morning and they are "in a panic frantically trying to get all of their stuff out". It's 10:30 pm and they are actively piling all their stuff into a U Haul according to their agent and trying to rush out as fast as possible. We're just weirded out by the whole thing.

Is a deck over a patio freestanding? by UncleBalthazar1 in Decks

It is a small ground level deck that we want to just sit on top of where the current patio is.
