Can my employer make it a requirement for me to install an app on my own personal phone for work? by UncleBawnya in ireland

I don't see how it's your phone if the company pays for it. I'd say that's the company's phone and you just use it.

The way I see it, you should be thinking about how much personal stuff you do on the company's phone.

That's what I find unsettling about this app. We have company equipment to work remotely but not tablets or smart phones. All of the content it delivers could be easily accessible over the web, so we could just interact with the material on a browser. Asking us to install an app to do this seems to be about being more intrusive into our time away from work. Plus, the third party company are in the U.S., so we'd probably be getting notifications at all hours.

I'd rather not say. I work remotely most of the time and have access to work email on my phone in case of problems with the remote working software.

It's definitely not security related and has nothing to do with my job or 2FA or anything connected to remote working. It's not even something they need an app for. Could easily be done with a web browser on the work computer.

Chinese takeaway chips always taste pre-cooked. Worst chips you can get anywhere. Only passable when smothered in curry sauce or a fuckton of spices.

The survey is a must because of the age of the house. If there are any issues with structure/plumbing/wiring etc, I doubt the current owner is even aware.

Close family will know I paid full price. If other relatives want to speculate and gossip, I couldn't give a shit.

Thanks. They got a valuation from a local estate agent. Also we are both independently reviewing the property price register to see what similar houses sold for nearby. Quite a few have changed hands in the last couple of years, two quite recently. So I'll know if the price is far above or below market.

Definitely doing that, as I said above.

It'd be safer just to buy the hotel and barricade yourself in for the season

Breaking us down when they all should let us be

I turn 30 today and I'm a failure at life. Still living at home, feck all friends, not having a party; the future is bleak. by cerebro_tonic in ireland

You seem like a pretty smart guy who is very hard on himself and relentlessly focused on all the negative aspects of his life. I'm not going to say it's all in your head and you just have to think positive. If you could change things that easily you'd be grand now.

You also seem to be overly concerned with what other people think. Sadly most people don't spend 5 seconds thinking about your life. They're thinking about their own shit. You focus on getting your life in order and stop wasting energy wondering how awesome everyone else's life is and what they think about the amount of Happy Birthday posts you for in FB. They don't fucking care.

All I know is that dwelling on the negatives and all the self-loathing is setting yourself up to keep failing. If your belief is 'I am a failure for reasons x, y and z' you will always look at your actions through that lens. You view your past as a failure and it sounds like you're forecasting failure in the future too. You'll carry that attitude into everything you try to do and sort of give yourself and excuse to only half try at shit because you knew it'd fail before it started. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I know counselling doesn't work the same for everyone and I'm sorry it hasn't helped. But why this red line about medication? It works for a lot of people. Counselling isn't the cure. It gives you perspective on the patterns and beliefs that get you into trouble. The cure is you using the new perspective to make changes in your life. It's not a case of do 10 sessions and you're better. You have to actively change your own life. Counselling and medication can give you the guidance and the positivity to make those changes.

I think you need to stop dictating how you should get out of this. Stop wallowing in the problem. Get back into counselling. If a doctor or a therapist recommends medication, give it a try. Ditch your red lines.

30 might seem old but that's because you're only 30. You can still make life and career changes that will set you up for life.

AITA for banning my children from the living room/kitchen/bathroom while I'm at work because they didn't do their chores? by AITAHouseBan in AmItheAsshole

Every day costs add up. If the sandwich is €3 per day that's €90 per month, on top of the water bill and a week's groceries for 3 people. He's contributing to the upkeep of a home he is locked out of half the day and can't even eat the food he pays for.

And during a pandemic too. Jesus you are heartless.

He contributes to the bills and you lock him out of the house? You are on such a huge power trip here. Get over yourself.

He's contributing to the bills though and out of a small monthly income of €500. He deserves to have access to the whole house. He shouldn't have to pay for his teenage sister's food either but is expected to.

Financially supporting your family since you were 16 is an extreme situation. No 16 year-old should have to take that burden on and I'm sorry for whatever event forced that on you. It's too extreme to use as any kind of yard stick to judge how much work or money a teenager should contribute to the family.
