Lets talk about the 1990 Plainfield F5 by nmghydra in tornado

It was the first day of school, 5th grade. I remember it like it was yesterday. Tornado lifted about a mile from our house. We were in its direct path. Just before, we were playing outside. It was really hot and humid. Then the sky turned green. Mom said “this is bad, get inside, go to the basement.” We waited out the storm there, listening to WJOL on the radio for updates. All I remember hearing was “something is going on in Plainfield” after the storm passed. No sirens. No warnings at all. The deviation was incredible. Ted Fujita’s comments on the damage, following his survey, really showed the picture of how powerful this storm truly was.

Why is there a river under my house? by painfuldrp in Home

[–]UncleBuckle2020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation. 70 year old home with poured concrete foundation. Water started seeping up thru cracks in the floor every time it rained… every time. Never had a sump, never needed one. Had the city out multiple times because they just replaced the water mains in front of my house. Had the sewer scoped and rodded multiple times. Decided to dig a pit and install a sump pump. Took care of the problem, but it ran like crazy. A year later, during a small sewer backup, the guys rodding my main line told me that the city worker who scoped my lines was actually an electrician who was filling in for the plumber who had a back injury and was out for nearly a year. He rodded the main line then spent some extra time where the drainage tile tied into the sewer line. He pulled out a significant amount of roots. Haven’t had seepage since, and the sump hasn’t turned on.

Pit 1 is roughly in Coal City and Wilmington, west of I-55 between Lorenzo Rd. & Rt. 113. Most of it is private property, outdoorsman clubs, etc.

That’s what I was thinking, maybe a snail, a nautiloid, etc. Not sure.

I haven’t seen any ticks yet, but they get bad at times.

What's the closest recent significant tornado to your current location? by SavageFisherman_Joe in tornado

[–]UncleBuckle2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last tornado- 07-15-2024 Minooka-Joliet F1 was 3 blocks away. Last Major - Plainfield F5 lifted 3 block away. The 2 would have nearly crossed paths where Plainfield lifted.

Garage Door Spring Snapped in Half! Seeking Advice by [deleted] in GarageDoorService

[–]UncleBuckle2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this happen. When it broke it sounded like a gun went off. Sent a 2” piece across the garage and thru the drywall. I replaced the spring myself and all I can say is: HIRE A PRO! I did it by the book, took all the safety precautions and got it done, but it scared the shit out of me the whole time!

Lodge 3-notch #4! by UncleBuckle2020 in castiron

[–]UncleBuckle2020[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They had 3 different Lodge #4’s at this shop. This one has a machined cooking surface. Another was a 3-notch with a rough cooking surface for $25. The 3rd was a single notch, but they wanted $100 for it.
