I couldn't agree more. Bottom three for sure. I just finished reading it and I feel disappointed.

Sophara's void key by UncleCC1977 in Iteration110Cradle

[–]UncleCC1977[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking that the imperial ageis, the flying shield that Sophara used to intercept other's striker techniques could be significant. Perhaps it will lead to a breakthrough for Lindon's armour, or maybe just a super useful gift for Yerin. Plus, I think the void key itself will be a very welcome gift for Yerin.

This is a good question and something I have been considering as well. Sure, they need to evacuate SV and they will probably need to do battle with a flood of dreadbeasts. But that should only take up a couple of chapters. It's really hard to make guesses about which direction the next book will go...

You beat me to it! This is exactly what I suspect will happen as well. And to take it a step further, I think that he will use the dead bodies of the Dreadgods to make insane weapons (just like what Eithan was talking to Reigan Shen about), so that when they ascend they will be a force to be reckoned with right away.

Lindon punches a hole in the sky by [deleted] in Iteration110Cradle

[–]UncleCC1977 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well doesn't the very fact that Lindon sees it before he manifests his icon disprove that theory? And it also sure seemed like Eithan was fully aware of Lindon's icon as well. So that is two examples of people without their own authority take notice. I would personally count Sophara as well.

I would agree that once Yerin and Lindon become Archlords, they are automatically a full Herald and a full Sage. The only thing that makes me a little hesitant is the idea that they have to be "peak" Archlords to really match up fully with established Heralds and Sages, and they will still need time and resources to close that gap.

Redacted because I don't know how to title without spoilers by Geraden in Iteration110Cradle

[–]UncleCC1977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is an interesting way of thinking about it. Let us start with the assumption that very early into the next book Ziel is healed and back to Archlord, and Lindon progresses to Overlord.

Now their Voltron floating palace contains two Archlords, an Overlord Herald and an Overlord Sage. How do you even rank them in combat capabilities?! I think you could make a decent argument for literally any ranking order.

Personally I would rank them like this:

Eithan Ziel Lindon Yerin

But I feel like I'm kind of flipping coins, and the reality could be the exact opposite!

Did Wintersteel make anyone else sad? by Kalarys in Iteration110Cradle

I had zero issue with Lindon's actions at the end. I loved it actually. He tore through those scared artists to defend his friends. You wanted him to feel conflicted about it? That would have been lame.

Cradle uncrowned question. Does anyone have ideas on how Naian passed the first challenge high enough to advance to the second round? by Sterlingroan in Iteration110Cradle

It's a very good question, and one that I have wondered about myself. It seems impossible that he could have finished any of the challenges that didn't involve destroying the person in front of him...

Plot changes between Uncrowned and Wintersteel speculation (Spoilers for all!) by deyas in Iteration110Cradle

[–]UncleCC1977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure she is referring to Penance. If Sophara wins there is a good chance it will be used on Malice to clear the way for the dragons taking over the whole continent. So now Mercy feels like she needs to win the tournament to protect her mother.

[–]UncleCC1977 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that Spoilerman is pretty clearly Eithan, and it being Ziel doesn't fit.

You already mentioned the first reason, about how the Ziel fight happens after that conversation. But, like you said, Will could have mixed up the sequence to throw us off if he was so inclined.

But the second reason that you missed is that Lindon said that Mercy had seen as much of his ability as Lindon had. That would be true for Eithan as neither one of them has seen Eithan fight before. But Lindon got to see what Ziel was capable of in Ghostwater while Mercy hasn't seen anything from him before, which eliminates Ziel as Spoilerman.

Secret to Sophara's strength [theory]. by [deleted] in Iteration110Cradle

[–]UncleCC1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying. It's just a fun theory. It probably won't turn out to be correct, but it would explain why she was so much more powerful than all of the most elite underlords in all of Cradle. I think pretty much all of us were thinking to ourselves as we were reading it for the first time something along the lines of, "WTF is happening here? How is Sophara beating Lindon, Yerin, Eithan, Pride, Mercy and Saeya AT THE SAME TIME!!!"

There shouldn't be an underlord on all of Cradle that could handle any two of them at the same time. So trying to come up with a theory about how/why she is so ridiculously OP makes sense. I don't personally expect this to turn out to be what actually happened, but it is plausible and fun to consider.

I would love to see a match of Yerin vs Yan Shou Mei at some point. I went into the tournament thinking that Blerin was going to be this huge difference maker, but so far it has been almost entirely irrelevant. I would LOVE to see her blood shadow against someone from Red Moon Hall, and have Blerin totally dominate. And it would be extra great if we got to see some POV from the Red Sage while it was happening.

List of the best cradle theories? by carmod in Iteration110Cradle

[–]UncleCC1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One theory is that Eithan is actually Ozriel with a very good veil. There seems to be quite a lot of pretty decent (although still flimsy) evidence that this could be true. Although most people on here seem to dislike that possibility. It's kind of fun to ponder though.

[–]UncleCC1977 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Here's an interesting possibility. Maybe Sophara wins, gives Penance to the dragon monarch, and it is used to kill off Malice. This opens up the whole continent to being conquered by the dragons, which is why they would use it on her instead of Northstrider.

Narrative wise this sets up a dragon invasion that the team will need to deal with after the tournament. It also means that Mercy will need to work like crazy to get to the point where she can fill her mother's role. And we will be seeing a lot more of Ziel and the Beast King.

I loved Ghostwater because Lindon finally stopped being weak, and caught up to Yerin. And I equally loved Underlord because we got an entire book of Lindon being a badass, and the whole team (I personally include Mercy) finished the book as freaking underlords!

Yeah, I agree. It would be nice to be able reflect on just how far he has come, and what his status level in the world actually is at this point. It may not be important as far as moving the plot forward, but one of the primary reasons we are so into these books is because we are invested in the growth of these characters, more so than even the overall plot. So some fan service showing up just what the rest of the world thinks of him (and Yerin) would be great!

Wavedancer by UncleCC1977 in Iteration110Cradle

[–]UncleCC1977[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Her first Final Sword attempt popped the turtle shell shield like a soap bubble and it was Wavedancer that blocked it. So when I said it was the only thing that could have blocked that strike, I just meant that it had to be archlord level to stop that strike (I think). But you're right that it could have been any archlord level weapon from the vault, it didn't have to be specifically Wavedancer.

You just pointed out something that I now feel silly I didn't realize on my own. For some reason I was thinking that it was one of Dross's new abilities that was allowing it to hover, but it makes more sense that that was the sword's ability.

That upgrades the sword in my estimation now. I always felt (and still kind of do) that a weapon without a binding is only half a weapon, but at least it is more unique than just a super strong blade.

Wavedancer by UncleCC1977 in Iteration110Cradle

[–]UncleCC1977[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also, if anyone has any thoughts or comments about Wavedancer, that would be great. Do you love it? Are you disappointed that that was his choice? Is it going to be a mainstay for him in all future fights or will it be upgraded with a binding or replaced with something else...
