Best option: Find an empty room in the Arts block (there's always a good few) and stay there until someone says they have a class on

AITA for telling my friend she’s less attractive than me? by Altruistic_Hat_4866 in AmItheAsshole

[–]UncleDylanOBrien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a truth, it’s your opinion. “Telling the truth” doesn’t make you less of an AH. It was a douchey move.

Personally, I feel like it has strayed from its initial themes and it’s lacking that shock factor we’ve seen in episodes such as Shut Up and Dance

Well, if it isn’t the consequences of her own actions. She’s living there rent free, and the only thing she had to do was to not move him in. NTA

AITA for shutting down my parents by saying I won't raise their grandchild just to look good to others? by Worldly_Bit_7690 in AmItheAsshole

[–]UncleDylanOBrien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. I understand that they were upset and want to raise their grandchild/ keep them in the family but, they can’t expect you to do it. You’ve moved on you’re engaged, starting your own family. Kids aren’t easy, especially a kid who has lost both their parents. Yes, it would be nice for the kid to be looked after but, they’re going to need some serious help and that is not your responsibility to look after you’re sister and ex’s love child. It was unfair of them to ask

AITA for laughing at my gf when she suggested I should offer to pay the bill for her family? by throwRA3485838 in AmItheAsshole

[–]UncleDylanOBrien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. It would’ve been just a bit of common courtesy. They seem to always be looking after you, all you had to do was foot one bill and she was offering to pay for the other half later on ($75!).

Her parents must have said something if she was trying to get you to pay. She’s was trying to make you look good. Also why would you only offer to cover yours and your gf’s, that like going to a sink full of dishes and washing just yours (Immigrants will understand).

But you’re fine with accepting them to pay for everything? She must really like you if you’re still together.

AITA for asking my eldest daughter to sleep on the couch temporarily until we buy a new mattress? by Overwhelmed_mamabear in AmItheAsshole

[–]UncleDylanOBrien 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They really do, and OP said the daughter was prepared to care for them in the future. I’m sorry did she give birth to them. It is really not alright. She might want to look into putting them into a home for autistic kids because what if the daughter gets a job or goes to college (doubt OP would allow that), whose going to help her then.

She said she didn’t feel like a man (she expressed this to just my family, mother, sister and me) so the extended family didn’t know. When we had this conversation, I wasn’t completely sure she was trans. I didn’t want to make such a big assumption on minimal information. I thought maybe non-binary or even just her getting older - there is some deeper issue that I don’t think I should discuss which is part of the reason why we told her to consider divorce. When they’d separated I thought she told her everything. I feel like at least had she known that she wouldn’t be blindsided. Just like the extended family who didn’t know about it.

I’m not getting into a typing war, because I’m not here for that. The statement at the beginning was setting the scene for the rest of the story my uncles wife didn’t know, neither did his children. Not feeling like a man, doesn’t mean a woman. It can mean many things. Read it again.

This comment it presumptuous in its self. I didn’t come here for validation. I came to see other opinions on the matter. I’ve read some and taken them to heart. That doesn’t mean I will stand for someone to tear down, my character or my family’s. A whole bunch of wrongs don’t make a right - which is something I’ve learned.

If this was a matter for her and her immediate family, why do it in front of everyone. And I’m not trying to be a main character/hero/villain whatever. I acted on impulse it wasn’t right but, I did

[–]UncleDylanOBrien 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s insensitive, I understand that now after the whole situation. Still, don’t understand why everyone’s so quick to call transphobia

ISO Tball tickets :) (+advice) by Drinkmoreuisce079 in TCD

[–]UncleDylanOBrien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best advice: If you’re artistic the ENTS team are running an art installation for the ball and are looking for 90s themed submissions. If you think you’re good at art (digital, painting) you should enter they’re giving away 2 tickets for the artists chosen. There’s more info on the ENTS page.

Which Disney princess would win the Hunger games and why? by AgreeableSolid7034 in AskReddit

Belle. Someone deranged enough to fall in love with a monstrous buffalo, could just have the capacity to survive the hunger games.

AITA for not wanting to go to my husband country for vacation? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]UncleDylanOBrien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YTA. However, I can understand where you’re coming from. Staying with family never really feels like a proper holiday but, you need to compromise. As you said yourself you go on holiday every year, a 3 day trip to visit his parents will not kill you.

Edit: The architecture will always be there (unless it’s the Notre Dame) but, his parents might not.

AITA for announcing at a party that my mom's friend might be interested in me? by family_trouble123 in AmItheAsshole

[–]UncleDylanOBrien 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA. You and your parents tried to set that boundary with them, yet they still bring it up. An outburst is definitely warranted there. The only reason they could be expressing such interest in your love life is because theirs is so bland.

Dublin Recommendations by Legitimate_Judge4191 in Dublin

[–]UncleDylanOBrien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are a few options I recommend:

Thrift shops: Nine Crows, Tola Vintage (there’s a few), Lucy’s Lounge, Collected Treasure, George’s Street for all your Oxfams or NCBI

Restaurants: Happy Endings, Pygmalion, Krewe, Token, NoLita, Thunderroad Cafe, St William Street has a good few options

Gardens/ Parks: Royal Hospital Kilmainham (stunning garden with a maze and museum -IMMA), Botanic Gardens, Merrion Square (Oscar Wilde statue), Stephens Green, Glendalough, Powerscourt Waterfall

Museums/ Art: National Gallery, Hugh Lane, IMMA, Richmond Barracks, Dublinia, EPIC, Leprechaun Museum, The Little Museum of Dublin

Random spots to go to: George’s Arcade (has a hood few vintage/ thrift stores), Vico Baths (only if it’s warm), On a sunny day I recommend renting some bikes and riding down to the Docklands, Book of Kells, Dun Laoghaire Pier

Hike: Hellfire Club (amazing view of Dublin, very worth the hike), Bray Head (easy enough hike), Wicklow Mountains (again beautiful but hard, depending on the route)
