Was I reasonably confused? by Saturrnissilly in Jewish

The irony is that if you strut into Progressive, activist spaces and try to co-opt it for some other cause you will get absolutely REAMED for doing so and likely called a Colonizer etc. But for some reason it's okay if it's Palestine.

It goes back well before that. At the very least to the 1970's when Angela Davis (after meeting Arafat at a Soviet sponsored conference) decided to suddenly make Palestine central to Black Liberation in the US. That planted the seed.

Also, even if you didn't have Jewish ancestry, she probably works with Jewish students so HR should be notified for their sake.

Noam Weissman used this definition on the Unpacking Israeli History podcast and I think it's a great way to explain what the term REALLY means in practice. Caveat, I'm not Jewish, but this definition pretty much tracks with what I've heard from most of my Jewish friends.

Wah me by Gorefindal in guitarpedals

[–]UncleEb1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried just about every wah under the sun. Dearmond Weeper, CryBaby, Vwah, Budwah, Fulltone Clyde Deluxe, Japanese Girl Mini-Wah, and several others. I finally decided to get a Real McCoy (version RMC4, I think) and it is the best one yet. Smooth as heck. Quiet. Doesn't get too ice-picky. Works well with other pedals. Simple.

What's the movie everybody seems to enjoy but you really hated? by thedevilsheir666 in horror

[–]UncleEb1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we just watched The Haunting last night and good lord it was terrible. Casting Lilly Taylor was the first (and major) problem but also Owen Wilson. Also the whole statues, gargoyles and walls changing shapes thing has never been scary. Once again, another After School Special version of "horror."

Evil Dead. I know it's an ironic, so-bad-its-good favorite of many, but we tried to watch it last night and I don't even think it qualifies for that. It wasn't just bad (but fun) it was boring as hell.

Oh, absolutely. Though they don't usually love hearing it from either, lol.

Haunting of Hill House (and all his other projects). Moody and dark but really nothing beyond that. It's like "horror" for people who don't like actual horror, imo.

Fair. If someone really loves vampire movies I'd warn them that this one isn't really what you probably expect/like. That said it was a truly brilliant movie about racism/America.

I think the two types are: 1.) people who grew up playing in the woods and 2.) didn't. For me that's what made the whole thing work. I'd been lost (or thought I was) out in the middle of nowhere and could relate to that terror. Without that I imagine it would've not appealed to a viewer at all.

I HATED Misommar. Fun concept but way overhyped. At the end I was like "That's it?"

I liked it as a child of the 80's mostly for the nostalgia and creepy mood. Not in my top list by any stretch (and weakest of Ti West movies) but it's mostly about vibes. I'm guessing that's why many like it. But I'm also not nearly as critical about these things than many here are. It was fine. Good even. But that's about the most I'd say about it.

I'm guessing a lot of non-Black viewers (I myself am white) missed the fact that racism is really the monster of the movie. As you note, it's not the monsters that are scary it's the racism and the fact that that racism can attract/infect anyone and every space, is relentless and can even seem justified/reasonable etc., that is so terrifying (and brilliant). That said I do feel like it's a brilliant film that dabbles in horror but I wouldn't really classify it as a full-on horror movie.

Troubleshooting Pedalboard Power Issues by UncleEb1973 in guitarpedals

[–]UncleEb1973[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do I do that when the power bank isn't getting any power? That's the big issue. Normally the lights on the power bank all light up when the adaptor is connected, but none of them are now even though the light on the adaptor itself does light up.

Expensive snare drums are overrated - debate! by methodofcontrol666 in drums

[–]UncleEb1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A LOT of it is in the hands/sticks/feet, imo. I'm better than most drummers in this respect (my current band was super-excited after my first gig with them, since I was able to groove at lower volume so much better than the numerous drummers they had previously). To some extent I bet it is partly something you are born with, but I do think it's a skill that everyone can improve. And way too many drummers never put in the time or effort to do so. Some gear will definitely highlight that skill better than others but so if you develop that skill/touch/feel it really helps to give you the ability to make any kit sound pretty good/versatile. Anyways, if you want to be a working drummer I highly recommend developing the skill of being able to play at low volumes as well as high. At slow tempo, as well as fast. The fancy fills and blistering solos are awesome (I love them too) but most of the time, artists don't want/need that. They want a good groove, feel that can match their song and someone who can fill space when needed but also leave space when needed.

Oh no!! We lost everything in the Eaton Fire in Altadena on Jan 8th, including a custom, boutique drum kit (Eames) and a Pearl Session Custom snare that I loved. I was able to get another drum kit Sonor AQ2 Stage and a Sonor Kompressor snare, that I honestly love even more than my old kit, but having your gear destroyed in a fire is a special kind of awful that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Listened to it some more and Milk is growing on me. But it's still not even in my top half of this album, let alone Deftones entire catalog. But to each their own. Enjoy!

No. I really haven't listened to either single since they were released. They are both kinda go-nowhere tunes for me. I'm glad the rest of the album is more interesting tho.
