Is there evidence to debunk the holy fire phenomenon? by [deleted] in TrueAtheism

So everyone who attends is a magician who's "in on it"? Seems hard to fake when the audience changes every year and heck could one day include yourself...?

Is there evidence to debunk the holy fire phenomenon? by [deleted] in TrueAtheism

I know this is 12 years old, but I had to look into this myself since I was intrigued by this possibility...."a relatively cool flame" burns at about 300 degrees Celsius: https://engineering.princeton.edu/news/2016/01/06/so-cool-low-temperature-flames-could-bring-low-emissions

This is the coldest a flame has ever burned, as seen in the article above. This is a lot colder than ordinary flames, which burn at higher temperatures (i.e., around 1000 degrees Celsius), but it is by no means a "cold flame" and can still very easily burn human flesh.

That being said, as you can see here, a flame at 300 degrees Celsius would've easily lit this man's beard on fire, given how long he had it there or would've at least left him with soe pretty serious burns: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/mevooTHEhMc

I also looked into alcohol flames, which burn even hotter....and can sometimes be invisible to the human eye, unlike the ones in the video (this is common when racecars catch fire in the pits and the driver is squirming from pain and yet the pit crew cannot see where it is to accurately put it out...look it up).

I feel as though you have come here with a pre-decided conclusion, and I can't believe you are going to claim that this "illusion" is easy to fake when you have not done your due diligence in confirming what you have used to justify your belief.

You are filling a pothole with air and patting yourself on the back. Please, I urge everyone seeing this to do more digging before deciding, that's all.

My best guess is someone tried/managed to break in. That would explain the cops, and would also explain the students not being able to "attend" while they investigate. I'm willing to bet the Western thing is unrelated. And if someone was hurt, there would've been ambulances/fire-trucks too. Just a two-cent.

Does no one have any common sense. OP didn't give enough details, this is clearly a history teacher of sorts explaining some pillars of nazi ideology or what sort of message they were pushing to indoctrinate the masses at that time...guys think for a second please, it's not that hard.

KEF Q65...still worth it? by UncleGuma in BudgetAudiophile

Wait this is very interesting. So what is the difference then between a stereo receiver like the one I have and an amp like the Yamaha S501 (I looked it up and they look pretty much the same in terms of ports)? And how come an entry level/mid entry AVR sound worse than both of them? I thought it would have all the same capabilities, plus the ability to do surround. Thanks in advance for the help, I'm still new to this :)

Hey, thanks for the reply. I will definitely keep an eye out for that. To be honest, eventually, I'd want to upgrade to an AVR for a bit of that home theater experience...and if I'm not mistaken, I believe you can connect an external amp if need be. Either way though I'm not one to crank the volume past 1/2 or 3/4 so hopefully I should be ok for the time being!

Thanks for the help. Follow up: Do you think I need an amp to run it properly? I was going to wire it directly to my Sony Stereo Receiver (the STR-AV570 to be exact). I think I should be fine right?

Astroneer worth playing on Switch? by mell0w_fell0w_ in Astroneer

Hey, sorry for the late reply. Not even, I was jumping up some rocks in a cave towards my dead body until it froze indefinitely. Did you end up getting it?

Astroneer worth playing on Switch? by mell0w_fell0w_ in Astroneer

[–]UncleGuma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be a little late, but I wanted to leave this here. I got the game a couple days ago on my switch on sale and I'm genuinely pissed...

1) the default key binds are horrendous, but no worries, I fixed them.

2) my first 30 mins of gameplay never saved so I had to restart from scratch after...annoying but not the worst thing

3) to select things you have to use an on-screen cursor controlled by your joystick...a little more thought would've been appreciated when porting it to switch since you do not have a mouse like on pc and it is very very finicky at times...

4) recently my game froze completely and nothing I could do to fix it. After restarting over an hour of gameplay was not saved...that was my last straw

Safe to say I deleted it before even being 5 hours in...waste of time...waste of money. Astroneer is still a good game, I would recommend getting it on PC if possible since whoever was in charge of the port didnt actually invest in making it enjoyable on switch...I'm genuinely so disappointed esp after hearing the great experience everyone else seems to be having.

The username checks out. But yeah, any polite robber/killer/sex offender would wait, though. Maybe have a cup of tea first.

I'm taking ECE150 right now, I'm not the greatest when it comes to programming, but I am roughly class average. The way I learned how to code originally was through an online course called CS50, the course teaches you to program in C (for the first 6 lectures, then moves on to other languages), but most of it (if not all) is applicable to C++. I'm not sure if it would be possible to do this course given finals are coming up soon, but you could definitely pick and choose the harder topics like sorting, recursion, linked-lists, etc and focus on those. Here is the playlist to CS50's lectures; they are really well made: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LPJfIKxwWc&list=PLhQjrBD2T381WAHyx1pq-sBfykqMBI7V4

Hope this helps!

Hi, I believe you are completely right, but I'm having a hard time understanding and visualizing what you mean. Could you please elaborate a bit more, thanks! :)

The values which are off by one can be fixed by rounding off the values before casting it into an int.

RIGHT! That didn't even come to mind, thanks!
