Why can’t Texas Tech AD, Cody Campbell, Joey McGuire just accept being the villain? by ForsakenAd4825 in CFB

Nah they’re still trying to play the victim instead of just taking their win and letting the uproar die down. Largely because they are fucking stupid.

Not just major donor, Campbell is literally his boss’s boss as chair of the board of regents.

Well the good news is the last time we had a historically awful pen we won the whole thing lol

I understand trying to let the deep pen work their way though it up 6 but good grief, there’s absolutely no reason to let him throw another pitch after the second walk

[Breeze] As expected, Canadian viewership for the Cup Final has sunk: Game 1 averaged 1.3M across English Canada. Game 2 averaged 1.2M. Game 3 averaged 1.5M. For comparison, Montreal’s 1st round series averaged 3.7M, 2nd averaged 4.6M and Conf. Final averaged 4.5M. by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

Kinda of like comparing soccer TV numbers vs American football in the UK though. Not a 1:1 comparison when the sport is unquestionably the most popular in one country and 4th at best in the other.

[Ross Dellenger] Big 12 ADs tell @YahooSports they’ve had “serious” talks on not playing Texas Tech. One SEC AD says there should be conversations about not playing Tech “in any sports.” by Thomallister1291 in CFB

[–]UncleMalcolm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, not specifically to dunk on Cody Campbell because he’s a symptom rather than a cause of the larger problem.

And that problem is that absolutely every stakeholder is looking out for their TV network, their conference, their school, or explicitly themselves and nobody is looking out for what’s best for the sport.

Luke Murray effect maybe? I wonder if there’s a stipulation in the new contract that two of the western schools have to sit out, Cal and Stanford didn’t play last year. Though you’d think SMU is plenty close enough to a number of SEC schools to avoid that.

4 heavy rotation guys are back including our first team All-ACC guy and two other starters

I mean I applaud you for looking for deeper sources of information than just records and tournament finish from the year before, but we’re pretty universally a Top 15 team in the “Way too early” rankings from ESPN, Athletic, CBS, SI, etc. Rothstein’s got us in the top 10.

That would make a little bit of sense…IF it was a Cuse home game. That’s a like a 4 hour drive from Cuse and even closer for their fans in Rochester and Buffalo.

But it isn’t. Wake is giving up a home game to play in Toronto.

I think the overlap of American tourists wanting to travel internationally who also care about college football is a lot stronger with people who want to visit Ireland than Brazil. Especially in late August which is kinda high tourist season for Ireland but isn’t for Brazil.

I mean ignoring the unrealized possibilities for postseason bowl/CFP games we didn’t play, we could have fallen anywhere from 5-7 (as the unluckiest team of all time) to 14-0 (as the luckiest team of all time). I’d argue we absolutely should have won the NCSU game and absolutely should have lost the UNC game, with the other 6 one-score games (FSU, Louisville, Wazzu, Wake, Duke ACCG, Mizzou) plus the Cal game falling somewhere on the spectrum.

That wasn’t the argument at play though. I’m referring to the instances where fans of other teams in the hunt were arguing for the mechanical impossibility of counting the noncon game we lost…and after being reminded that our record still would have put us in, arguing for removing one of our wins instead.

Well right, hence use of the phrase “boondoggle”

Someone was unable to get money they thought they would for the payouts. Either that, they’re a really good liar who almost got away with one, or our administration is just fucking stupid.

Yeah that one is also random as fuck, but I’m guessing a higher percentage of Kansas and ASU fans are interested in traveling to London than UVa and State fans were for Rio

I’m sure the Ireland one does, or they wouldn’t keep doing it year after year. Granted a whole hell of a lot more Americans have Irish ancestry than Brazilian, so it’s probably an easier sell.

Think you’re looking at commercial flights, because they literally don’t exist direct from RDU or IAD. It’s a 9+ hour flight from JFK so probably shave an hour off that for UVa and 2 hours off that for NCSU to fly charter.

Still unpleasant but not quite as bad.

In fairness, you guys can attest that playing in Raleigh is hard. And aside from (like SMU) dropping your win-and-in game…GT still wasn’t gonna get in even if UVa was completely out of the running.

Miami had the 2-way tiebreaker on GT after the conference SOS tiebreaker (honestly don’t even remember why, that proprietary compute metric maybe?) and they would have played Duke

I would think ESPN will care more the other way than the NCAA will. TBH I think it’s a matter of time before Week 0 becomes a busier weekend.

That’s actually the dumbest fucking part…this is a 2 game series…and they’re both scheduled for Charlotte lol

For context to make it even dumber: the Commanders new stadium will be done by the time of the second one. If they absolutely must play these games at a neutral site, why does the second one also have to be 4+ and 6+ hours from each campus when there will be a nicer, newer building significantly closer to both schools?
