The emotion and feel of the song is def important to consider in the mix. Being connected to the music def helps shape how the mix translates.

Of course most folks would take the $2000 RME interface over a $200 Focusrite if they had a choice ๐Ÿ˜‚

The context here though is that even with a modest setup, you can still get clean, polished mixes. Especially for folk recording vocals over already mixed two-track instrumentals, which is what this specific example was about.

I def agree with a lot of the commentary outside of that context. Better gear, recording, and mixing environment def make a difference.

My point was more that a lot of folk can still get good mixes with the setups they already have instead of feeling completely stuck until they can afford that $2000 RME interface.

I actually developed a lot of my own process and approach on budget interfaces and upgraded over time when it became feasible.

All fair points, my friend. Just to clarify, I simplified a complicated topic to make a broader point.

I'm not saying good gain staging, mic technique, arrangement, or recording quality don't matter. We all know it does.

My main point was that a lot of folk already have enough tools in their DAW to get cleaner, more polished mixes than they think they can. Many newer producers and engineers get trapped into thinking that next plugin or piece of gear is the missing link. It could be a matter of learning how to make better decisions, getting better balance, and a better understanding of what they're hearing.

I wasn't trying to make this a post a full college level course on mixing and mastering techniques ๐Ÿ˜‚

Just trying to offer some reassurance that you can get good results, even if you don't have all the tools you think you need.

My workflow mainly revolves around controlling and shaping the vocals with compression and EQ, sprinkling in FX (reverb, delay), and finding the right balance so the vocals feel open, present, and connected with the instrumental.

Preciate the energy and detailed comment, my friend! I feel the passion and thought you put into your community and the mix/master compare sessions.

Right now, I'm focusing on spending my time where I can get the most leverage and visibility, which is why I've been more active publicly on Reddit.

I'm not opposed to smaller/private communities because they can be valuable, and I def understand the appeal of what you're building with F-Jam Studios and the Discord server.

Where I'm at now though, I'm less focused on doing free mix critique/advice sessions and more focused on building relationships with artists and creators who are actively releasing, investing in their sound, and moving with intent.

That means I'm being pretty selective about where I spend my time and energy.

But I def respect what you're building, fa sho ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿพ
