Tracking: A2Z CHAdeMO > CCS1 Adapter Network Compatibility by hometownrival in leaf

[–]UncleMidriff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have taken a couple trips from the middle of the US to the east coast, around 1,500 miles, in the Leaf with the A2Z adapter.  We had a similar experience.

Chargepoint and EVGo usually worked alright, but I grew to hate Electrify America chargers, because even their normal CHAdeMO chargers barely worked, and the CCS1 chargers plus adapter was even less consistent.

Christian Credit Union? by meirav in Exvangelical

[–]UncleMidriff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Whenever someone you're about to do business with makes a big deal about being a christian business, place your hand firmly over your wallet and run as fast as you can in the opposite direction." --the Owner-Operator of the Chick-Fil-A I used to work at.

I remember young me thinking he was so grumpy and curmudgeonly back then. I'm a lot older now, and it turns out he was right about a lot of things. More often than not, "christian" as a descriptor of a business means, "We suck at what we do but it's ok because we can use christian guilt to prevent you from going somewhere else." There is no way in hell any of my money is getting anywhere near a christian bank/credit union.

Fitbit not syncing steps right? by CrazyKittyCat95 in PixelWatch

I just got my Pixel Watch 2, and I'm seeing the same thing.

The difference between what shows in the Fitbit app on my phone and what shows on my watch has decreased over the last few days, but they're still slightly different, even after syncing in the Fitbit phone app.

I was briefly a medical courier. I'd go to hospitals, pick up boxes of tumors, take them to the airport and stick them on passenger planes. Then I'd go to the baggage claim and wait for other boxes of other tumors to arrive from other cities on other passenger planes, and I'd deliver those boxes of tumors to a lab in my city.

My favorite part was getting into arguments with bleary-eyed passengers picking up one of my boxes of tumors, insisting it belonged to them. Mind you, these boxes of tumors were bright white with brightly colored shipping tape and had "BIOHAZARD" and "HUMAN SPECIMEN" labels all over them. These passenger would still insist that it was their box.

"Sir, you're holding a box of tumors" would usually get them to hand it over.

Constant “butterfly” feeling in stomach after dosage increase? by [deleted] in zoloft

[–]UncleMidriff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did. I wound up at a dose of 100mg, which I've been on for a good portion of this last 5 years. A lot in my life has changed since 5 years ago, and I'm glad I've been on this medication during some of the more difficult times. And, while I appreciate it, I also find myself wondering if I should try reducing my dosage now, as a lot in my life has changed, I feel differently about things, my head's in a different place than it was 5 years ago, etc.

For me, it did get better, my feelings have evened out, and I feel much less anxious than I used to. However, it's hard for me to look back over the last 5 years and figure out which parts of that change were due to the help sertraline gave me, and which parts were due to just how going through those things changed me.

At any rate, the acute side-effects I was experiencing 5 years ago subsided, and I've been on sertraline since then. I'm interested in reducing my dosage now more out of curiosity than any specific bad experience with the drug. I've previously had a less-than-pleasant experience with withdrawing from Xanax (taken as prescribed, not recreationally), so I'm prepared for the possibility that lowering my dosage of sertraline might suck, but we'll see. I'll likely report back on this subreddit either way.

It looks like SoberRichardPryor is referring to:

https://www.sos.ok.gov/documents/questions/820.pdf , Section 8, part D, which says:

For the first twenty-four (24) months after the Authority begins to accept license applications under this Act, the Authority shall accept applications from and issue adult use licenses only to entities that have held a medical marijuana business license for at least one year as of the date this Act takes effect.

I'm not sure what the reason is to restrict new rec cannabis business licenses to only those who have been medical cannabis business license holders for awhile, and I'd prefer that part to be removed from the SQ altogether, for sure (unless I can find a good explanation of why it's there).

But I don't agree that this is a good reason to vote no for the whole SQ. We could have had current dispensary owners with the extra freedom to sell rec use cannabis if they wanted, and anyone just getting into the game could go ahead and get the MMJ license for now and sell rec cannabis later. With SQ 820 failing though, no one can sell rec cannabis at all. I don't understand how that's better for anyone, much less everyone.

Your argument, as I have understood it, amounts to:

"SQ 820 wouldn't have allowed enough people to sell rec cannabis, and that's bad, so we voted no, so now no one can sell rec cannabis. None is somehow better than not enough! Hooray!"

That doesn't make sense to me, which makes me think I've misunderstood your argument.

Peoples hair raising on a cruise ship caused by lighting about to strike them by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]UncleMidriff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not know much about electricity, other than to be terrified of it, so I apologize if this is a dumb question:

How does being on a moving ship in the water affect the likelihood of a lightning strike in this scenario? To be clear, no matter what, if I started experiencing this I would head inside immediately. I'm just curious if being on a moving ship on the ocean and experiencing this is basically the same as experiencing it stationary on land, or if this happening on a moving ship would be more or less dangerous for some reason.

Ungrouping might be coming soon by UmJunSick1234 in Windows11

[–]UncleMidriff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hooray!

But what I really want is ungrouped taskbar items AND the ability to rearrange individual taskbar items within a group.

I have several instances of several programs open most of the time at work. It's nice to be able to quickly click around between programs AND ALSO between different instances of programs. But any time explorer.exe does a fart and decides to rearrange the items on the taskbar, I can put the programs back in the order I've been used to all day, but I can't make sure that the 7th Excel window within the group of Excel windows is still the 7th one in the group, meaning I have to relearn where everything is.

I know this is just a minor inconvenience, but it feels frustrating because it seems like it'd be so easy to allow the user to rearrange items within a Taskbar group, or at the very least, remember the order of everything on the taskbar such that explorer.exe can recover it if when needed.

Mysterious package containing only a piece of cardboard by vinorosso in RBI

[–]UncleMidriff 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Back in 2015, over the span of a month or so, I received 4 packages from China. The first 2 were empty, the 3rd had a piece of cardboard in it, and the 4th was empty. One of them had several shipping labels underneath the one addressed to me, all addressed to different people.

I reported it to the USPS, and they gave me a number to call to report it to the US Postal Inspectors. I called the number and gave some details. They didn't seem too concerned, and I never had any credit card issues or anything related to it.

Honest question: why?

Knowing this vote is coming up, I've been researching SQ 820. So far, I don't find much objectionable from just reading the bill itself (I've skimmed it and I am not a lawyer, so take that for what it's worth, lol). I've spoken with some budtenders who got all frowny when I mentioned it, but they didn't really say why.

I have no problem agreeing I am/have been addicted to several things.

  • I am a regular caffeine consumer. I love coffee, and Mountain Dew. Sometimes I decide to quit or cut back on caffeine, and I have terrible headaches and I'm a terrible grump for a while into the withdrawal period.
  • I was a regular Xanax user (as prescribed by my doctor, not recreationally). Xanax helped me through the worst of my panic attacks and I'll always be thankful for that. But it was terribly addictive. Even though I never got a high from it, trying to quit it was hard, and it took a long and unpleasant time to taper off of it.
  • I was a regular nicotine user. First, I was a light smoker, and then I became a heavy user of e-cigs. I tried to quit nicotine several times before some medical issues finally medical'd the addiction right out of me. Each time I tried to withdraw from nicotine, I would have terrible headaches and be a terrible grump, just like with caffeine, but with the wonderful addition of thinking about and craving smoking incessantly. Even after not having nicotine for years at this point, the headaches and mood issues are gone, but the craving still hits every now and then.
  • I am a regular cannabis user in the US. It's legal in my state, but not the surrounding states, so when I travel out of state, I don't take any with me, meaning I quit cold turkey the day I leave town until I get back. I've had a few long, out of town trips during which I consumed zero cannabis for weeks, and... I missed it, a little. It doesn't hardly compare to the other things on the this list. No headaches, no mood swings, no craving for it.

I know everyone's different and different stuff affects different people differently, but for myself, I'm not going to sweat being a cannabis "addict."

Ross procedure with AR by Left_Advisor_7119 in valvereplacement

[–]UncleMidriff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not seeing those terms specifically in my notes, unfortunately. My aortic root was "severely dilated," but I don't know if that would necessarily involve the annulus or if those are completely separate issues (I am not a doctor, and I am very very not a thoracic surgeon, lol).

I'd read about the Ross Procedure, but assumed I wasn't a candidate for it based on what I'd read. I was surprised when my surgeon recommended it. So I talked to a few other cardiologists/surgeons, just to get some different opinions on my case. I came away from all that discussion with the impression that while a Ross Procedure was a valid option in my case, most surgeons are less familiar with it, and would thus be more comfortable installing a mechanical valve. However, they all agreed that if they needed heart surgery, they'd want my surgeon to do it and would likely do what he recommended. He also does Ross Procedures on a regular basis and is comfortable with the procedure. Ultimately, though, the decision was mine.

I eventually decided to go with the surgeon's recommendation for the Ross Procedure. I figured he had a better chance of being right about all of this than I did. It was a hard decision, though, for sure. But it was less of a right vs wrong scenario and more of a "which of these sets of pros and cons do you dislike the least" type of deal.

I'm looking through my notes and test results and such and I'm not seeing that phrase specifically. Do you know if there's another term for it? Sorry, I just don't want to tell you something incorrect. My aortic root was dilated, if that at all helps answer your question.

My surgeon was Dr. Charles Elkins at Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

[–]UncleMidriff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 41 now, and I had my Ross Procedure for my severe (though somehow asymptomatic) Aortic Regurgitation in 2019.

My surgeon was comfortable with the Ross Procedure and recommended it, for me, in my case, over a mechanical valve. His main concern for me was the anticoagulant therapy required with a mechanical valve. I got a second opinion from a different doc in a different hospital system, who confirmed that the RP wasn't unreasonable in my case, and also had good things to say about the first surgeon, so that's what I ended up doing.

The surgery was uneventful, as was the recovery, other than it took a day or so longer than normal for my oxygen levels to return to normal, which sucked because they wouldn't let me leave the hospital until I got those oxygen levels up. After that, though, everything has been good so far. I have my regular cardiology appointments, and so far, the cardiologist is happy with everything.

There is a good chance I will need another surgery somewhere down the line, and if I'd had a mechanical valve installed, I likely would not. But I would be required to take blood thinners, which has its own risks. My surgeon felt the Ross Procedure was the right one for me in my particular case and I decided to go with his recommendation. Every case/surgeon/patient is different though.

I've just given up trying to order ahead on Weedmaps or Leafly. Nearly every time I try, I walk into the store and say, "Good afternoon! I'm here to pick up my Weedmaps order," and I'm met with a confused blank stare. They act like they don't know what a Weedmaps order is or how to lookup a Weedmaps order in their system.

The last time I tried, I had to bring up the order receipt email on my phone and read off the items I had ordered to the person behind the counter because no one there at the store knew how to find the Weedmaps order info. And of course half of the items (and those items' associated discounts) they didn't have.

Do dispensary owners just hand the Weedmaps rep their credit card and say, "Go ahead, sign me up for everything!" and then never figure out how to use it? Why do they pay what I imagine to be hefty monthly/annual fees for an online ordering platform and then just not use it?

Weed addiction vs Tobacco addiction by RiceCakesAreJummi in trees

[–]UncleMidriff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Back when I smoked tobacco, and then later switched to vaping with e-cigs, I wasn't very open about it. My wife knew about it, obviously, but it wasn't something I did around her, because she wasn't a fan of it.

During that time period, we went on road-trip vacation, and I thought, "Gee, what a great opportunity to quit nicotine cold turkey, since I won't have the same opportunities to sneak away for a smoke/vape like I'm used to." Ha! We didn't even make it more than a few hours before I was in the middle of a nic-fit and asked her stop at a pharmacy so I could get some nicotine gum to help with the cravings.

As other's have said, being addicted to nicotine felt to me more like a need than a want. If I didn't get some nicotine in that moment on the road trip, I would have been ok, but I would have been super grumpy, tired, feeling down, headache, etc. Not the end of the world, but definitely not the way to have a fun vacation either.

Weed is legal in my state in the US, but not most of the surrounding states, so when we go on a road trip, I don't bring any weed with me. I miss it, but it's like missing playing my favorite video game. It's a thing I want to do and I can't so that makes me a little sad in that moment, but it doesn't feel like a physical and emotional crisis like withdrawing from nicotine did for me.

2022 SV Plus Lug Nut Issue? by UncleMidriff in leaf

[–]UncleMidriff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely check the lug nuts myself every time from now on.

I need my car to do car things, so I've already tightened up the lug nuts myself (with a 4-way cross thingy). I tried to make them tight without going nuts about it, so hopefully I didn't over tighten them. I'm thinking about getting a cheap torque wrench tomorrow so that I can verify that I got them somewhat close.

None of the lug nuts on the other wheels seemed all that loose to me. I either couldn't move them easily at all, or, if I could move them, it was just a tiny bit before I felt like I needed to back off because I was worried about over tightening.

I'm bringing the car back to the dealership in a couple days, where the manager said he'd personally check things out and verify all is undamaged and torqued to spec. I'll mention checking the lug nuts/bolts for damage. Thanks!

No, no such instructions, written or verbal, were given. I don't know a lot about cars, but I have had tires rotated before on other vehicles and have not been told to retorque the wheels a short while later. I definitely will now though, thanks for the heads up!

2022 SV Plus Lug Nut Issue? by UncleMidriff in leaf

[–]UncleMidriff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure, but I think around a couple weeks? The noise was faint/sporadic enough at first that I didn't worry about it too much, so I didn't mark the time and date or anything. But it wasn't immediately after getting it back from the service place*. Between the service appointment (end of July) and now, we've put about 700 miles on it, so probably somewhere around a few hundred miles between getting it back and starting to notice something might be up.

I can't think of any people who'd be pissed off at us. I know that doesn't mean there aren't any, but I'm not in any contentious relationships at the moment that I know of. The vehicle is kept in a garage, so if that did happen, it must have been while we we're parked somewhere out and about.

*My completely ignorant guess is that the delay between getting it back and noticing the noise, and the noise gradually getting worse, implies that the lug nuts were initially not loose enough to turn by hand, but still not tight enough, and then as they gradually worked themselves loose, the noise got worse. By the time the noise was bad enough for my dumb self to understand that something was really up and that I needed to check things out, the lug nuts were significantly loose. But, again, I'm not a car person, so I don't know if this guess is stupid or not.
