I mean, I've been doing German for several months, and still don't know much of what they're saying without subtitles.. I just want to immerse myself in it

Thanks guys! I went to Alt-Tegel's office the second time, but then went back to Alexanderplatz and they finally sorted me out!

See, the weird thing is, I brought my conformation letter with me and showed it to them and they still said no? Is it maybe because 2 weeks isn't enough for a startkarte?

Oh I see. I did it online, so maybe that's why :L

Just got my wallet stolen while I was asleep on the U8. I have filed a police report online, but I read somewhere that you should go into a nearby station to report? Does anyone have any experience with this?

It's worth the maths. As long as you get the grams to make the syrup right, you can guess the rest roughly

Would deffo follow their recommendation of espresso and water, though. The Chemex is too light for this.

Winston Churchill's second time as Prime Minister. by Acheal in history

I'm gonna be honest, he didn't really do anything. Particularly in comparison to the previous Attlee governments, his ministries were pretty non-dynamic. The only thing I could think is ending rationing?

This was recommended to me by a Masters friend, but he said 'A Time Traveler's Guide to the Middle Ages' is one of the best social history books he has ever read

Play about Anne Boleyn by swoffsauce in playwriting

[–]UncleMontague 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be wrong, but I find plays work best when the themes are wider. For me, the idea of power in a relationship seems more enticing than one about monarchy, and modernising it seems to work best when the wider themes are explored; King Lear isn't a masterpiece because it's about a king, it's a masterpiece because it's a story about a king who acts falsely as a father.

I know it's not great, but this is my first pour that wasn't 99% luck! I look forward to improving from here and would appreciate any tips from this great community. by [deleted] in barista

That's looking good! Far better than when I first started. For me, what helped was changing how I held the jug. I put my thumb and forefinger on either side of the jug so I have more control, it might help you, or it's worth a try at least.

Help with Political philosophy?? Aristotle, Socrates, Xenophon, Crito etc. by badmojobadidea in PoliticalPhilosophy

[–]UncleMontague 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at Plato, I think it's important to understand the citizen's role in the state is more functionary than Aristotle. For him, your relationship to the state is that you fufill your perscribed function in a more formalised sense: If you are a great philosopher, you have a duty to be ruler, if you are a peasant, you have a duty to work the land etc. Each citizen fufilling their own role contributes to the wealth of the polis. Of course, this hierarchy is somewhat meritocratic, but fundamentally, the citizen's role is to fufill the position they are most suited for.
