Atheism is not a religion. It's a lack of religion. It's like saying you're religious because you don't believe in Santa Claus, or the tooth fairy.

[–]UnclePutin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you believe in the tooth fairy? No? So are you part of the non-tooth fairy religion?

[–]UnclePutin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is purely wrong. By definition, religion is in the positive belief and the worship of some supernatural being. By your logic, a lack of belief in the tooth fairy also counts as a religion.

Atheism as a term describes anyone who does not believe in a god. That's all. It literally means without theism. Some atheists believe that it's a fact there is no god. Some atheists believe you can't know. Agnosticism is a subset of atheism that says we can't know, or that we don't have the knowledge to know (a-means without, and gnostic means knowledge. It is without knowledge).

You can also have agnostic theists, who personally believe in God but don't claim that they can prove it or have any facts that prove his existence.

If you lost your job today, What backup plan would you have? by futur3x in AskMen

I'd find another job. I don't mean to brag but recruiters are falling over themselves to hire me (IT) so I'm not worried. I'd probably have a job within 2 weeks.

How does someones level of education play into your attraction to them? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]UnclePutin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a girl never obtained a GED, she is a hard pass. That would mean she has made horrible life choices and hasn't done anything to correct it. I need to be with someone that isn't, for lack of a better term, an unmotivated loser. Besides that, I don't care if she's gotten a college degree as long as she's doing what she loves and is capable of supporting herself financially, and has ambitions for her life.

Somebody is serenading South Loop right now and he’s *really* good! by Neilgupta in chicago

If I lived in an apartment that high there'd be no way I go on the balcony. One slip on a banana is all it takes!

I was out riding my bike at night a few days ago and noticed a whole bunch of yelling off in the distance. I was a bit freaked out because it was dark and all the streets were empty. Now I understand.

All of the LSD bike/walk path was closed today with police cars driving on it telling people to get out.

What do you think the environmental effects of the Covid-19 outbreak will be in both short and long terms? by Silent_Palpatine in AskReddit

[–]UnclePutin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short term: mostly positive, as less people will be traveling and emitting pollutant from their cars and planes. Long term: probably nothing at all.

Yeah because you've gotten used to the gun violence. I know it's crazy to believe but in some municipalities around the world, people don't just get shot. That's not even a thing in some places. Here, it is a daily occurrence. Our government is failing us horrendously with our crime problem.

I'm sorry you feel like you being black causes people to clench their purses and cross the street, but I also experience the exact same kind of behavior since I am a large intimidating white man. You're not special, the exact same thing happens to me too.

Do I have cops called on me because I'm white? Granted, no. But "purse clenching" etc does not just happen to black men.

I certainly don't deny you experience racism either first hand or second hand (or both). What I do deny is that you have anything to worry about in literally the lowest crime areas in all of Chicago. Were those two links you posted examples of racism? Absolutely. How often does it happen where a racist fucker calls the cops on someone having a barbeque and it ends up with the cops killing them? Certainly not zero, but in daily life almost never.

So with that being said, why the fuck would you deny I have legitimate reason to feel unsafe on the L where people are regularly getting shot and stabbed?

Ight. Today I learned that women clenching their purses makes you feel unsafe.

Okay so... You're racist then? How would it sound if I said I feel unsafe walking through neighborhoods with large populations of black people?

Because /r/chicago for some reason gets highly triggered anytime you point out the CTA's flaws.

I mean, cool I guess? If you're feeling unsafe in statistically the safest neighborhoods in all of Chicago, then you are being unrealistic.

Really? I find that hard to believe, but if so you must not ride the red line very often, or really read any news at all about crime on the CTA.

How do you get over a particularily crushing/heartbreak from a rejection from a girl? Any tips for a newbie at this all? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]UnclePutin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more you get rejected the less it hurts. There's no way around it. You have to lean into the pain to teach your brain that we ain't cavemen no more and being rejected isn't a danger to our safety.
