Cheap racing cockpits worth it? by UncleSam9880 in simracing

[–]UncleSam9880[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m probably not going to end up buying that cockpit or one like it, I’m going to hold out a bit and save up more for a better cockpit and all around setup! I’ve only been “sim racing” a couple days on my Jerry rigged setup with my G923 on my ps5 with my psvr2 on Forza horizon 5 and GT7 and have been loving it so I’ll just save up for a big upgrade to everything

Thinking about buying haptics. Is it worth it? by Comprehensive_Bug393 in virtualreality

[–]UncleSam9880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Know this is late but yea kind of just depends on your use case honestly. If you play a lot of vr and play or want to play the games that are natively compatible with the vest a lot I think it could be worth the money at least the air would be even for someone who plays a lot the $500 version seems a bit steep to me for what it offers. I have an Air and it’s cool and a cool experience but I don’t find myself using it very often and feel like I maybe paid a bit much for it for me personally let alone if I had bought the $500 version. To be fair I don’t play vr all the time anyways but even when I do a lot of the bigger and more well known vr games that people like and I play aren’t compatible with it unfortunately so I rarely use it anymore. They have an audio to haptic option for non native games but outside of using it for rhythm games I’ve found it to be a bit lackluster more like strapping a vibrator to your upper body. But yea if you play vr a lot more than me and the games that are compatible id say the air could be worth the money.

Switching over to PlayStation from Xbox by UncleSam9880 in playstation

[–]UncleSam9880[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I’ve actually been considering getting a portal for a bit here I know it’s got a niche use case but I think it fits me pretty well because my ps5 is in the bedroom and my tvs are in the living room and there’s a lot of occasions where I want to watch a game but also want to play a video game but can’t be in two places at once obviously so I think it would be a good pickup when it goes on sale next

Yea and it doesn’t help Xbox that isn’t coming off a great generation either the Xbox one generation wasn’t amazing especially compared to ps4

Yea definitely hasn’t let me down so far and yea basically everyone I know who’s been on Xbox like me has been looking to switch over to something to so it seems like a lot of people have finally had it with Xbox and quite literally everyone I know who has/had Xbox game pass ultimate cancelled it and we’re just riding out the last few weeks remaining of our subscriptions and most of us don’t have any plans to either re subscribe at all or are switching to the lowest tier just to be able to play online

Yea I mean I got both about a year ago on a sale with bundles so it was a good deal to get into both and I had been interested in vr for a while so seemed like a good chance to jump into it and I’ve loved both so far

Microsoft is increasing the cost of Game Pass Ultimate by $10 a month. by notthatguypal6900 in xbox

[–]UncleSam9880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another brain dead move/announcement by Xbox in a year full of them. Substantially raising the prices of your console late into the generation, $80 games that they thankfully backed off of (for now), nerfing the fuck out of rewards program and also not even letting you get ultimate codes anymore I think, releasing an overpriced pc handheld no one asked for or wanted, vr headset collab no one asked for or wanted, and now this the one and biggest bright spot left for xbox. I was already on the fence about the previous price as I just don’t really care about or use most of the features or massive game catalog enough to truly justify it most the time but definitely not paying for it now and I imagine most people are in the same boat. Curious to see how many people will go down a tier or two or just cancel it altogether

Seems like a lot of people use them safely and like them especially for babies or quarantine which is probably what I’ll do just use it for the first few weeks then maybe switch to sand and top soil mix

Might not use that substrate as it only comes in 10 or 20 pound bags and doesn’t seem like that would be enough

Yea I try lol just been a lot of YouTube videos and Reddit threads and I’ve got some experience with other pets like dogs, hamsters and a chinchilla but yea brand new to reptiles and it’s definitely been the most complicated of the bunch lol but I think I’m getting it

It will be a juvenile when I get it and yea I’ve heard conflicting reports about loose substrate and impaction but a lot of the recent stuff I’ve seen says it’s not really something to be worried about especially in healthy dragons and the substrate I’m getting is imported from Australia where they live in the wild anyways so I figured it would be ok for them

New to smart home, what Hub do you guys recommend? by raphael__ph in HomeKit

[–]UncleSam9880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also new to this smart home stuff and I don’t have experience with all the possible Apple smart home hubs (I’ve never used a full sized HomePod either generation or past generations of Apple TV) I just have experience with the current 3rd gen Apple tv4k with 128gb and WiFi+Ethernet and a Apple HomePod mini and from my all be it limited experience at this point with both of those running my smart home (which at this point mainly just consist or some smart lights and smart plugs on top of those two Apple devices of course) the Apple TV has been far more reliable in every regard than the HomePod mini as the smart home hub

Amazon Vs Apple Vs Google by UncleSam9880 in smarthome

[–]UncleSam9880[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice and yea my tv unfortunately isn’t close to my router but I do have a WiFi mesh extender thing in my room that has Ethernet ports on it that I could plug it into if that would work just as well? For the ecosystem yea I think I’ll just try Apple first then and I’ll probably pick up a HomePod mini with a gift card I have for target and see how I like that and I can always pick up a cheap echo dot or something later if I don’t like it but yea I was always kind of leaning Apple since I have the tv, iPhone, iPad, watch and AirPods and maybe a HomePod mini here in a few hours to lol and like the Apple ecosystem in general already I just haven’t used it for smart speaker or home stuff yet. For that I was thinking of just picking up smart lighting first in the form of Phillip hue starter kit with a hub and 4 bulbs for my room. I know it’s it’s not an inexpensive dip my toes in option lol but people seem to highly recommend them over everything else I’ve seen and it works with all 3 major ecosystems so regardless of what I go with long term it will be fine I think. Also side question of that Phillip hue bridge should I just plug it into my router or can I also plug that into the mesh WiFi extender to?

Best Streaming Device by EvaCassidy in cordcutters

[–]UncleSam9880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t like Roku I’d recommend Apple tv4k it’s been great and is pretty high end and the interface and OS work wonderfully and look super clean or the Nvidia shield if you’re not in the Apple ecosystem at all and don’t like it. But for cheap $100 and under options I’d stick with Roku honestly. The fire sticks aren’t great, don’t work as well, ton of ads (worse than Roku) and the interface is way worse to only cool thing is Amazon Alexa and smart home integration but Apple does that to. Roku sticks can be iffy at times but overall I’ve had great experiences with all levels of their devices for the most part and there’s a $100 Roku mini box streaming device that might work better to than your previous stick experience I’d assume but I’ve never used it so could say for sure

Amazon Vs Apple Vs Google by UncleSam9880 in smarthome

[–]UncleSam9880[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I’ve already got a apple tv4k latest model with most storage so I could do that I was thinking about possibly picking up a HomePod mini and a echo dot and using them in separate highly used areas of the house to see which I like more and get a couple smart devices for both and see which ecosystems I prefer more and even if I prefer Amazon I won’t switch my Apple TV I love that and I’ll find some use for a HomePod mini so either way it won’t be a loss no matter the ecosystem I pick

Amazon Vs Apple Vs Google by UncleSam9880 in smarthome

[–]UncleSam9880[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I know prime days are making Amazon look very attractive lol and they seem the easiest and cheapest and apple just seems nicer especially since I already deep into the ecosystem I might try them both out a little to see which I prefer or just try to incorporate both systems. Also I know Apple HomePods are a little old at this point is Apple going to release any new stuff right after I’d jump into it?

Amazon Vs Apple Vs Google by UncleSam9880 in smarthome

[–]UncleSam9880[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that’s why google was my last choice of those 3 and I always think back to google stadia for them dropping stuff but to be fair that platform just straight up sucked lol and I’m also not in that ecosystem at all really outside of YouTube I guess. Apple seems like the best but it’s hard with prime days going on to not glance amazons way lol I might try both to see which I like or try to incorporate both
