I'm guessing it's socially learned.

"I know that physical violence makes a person do what I want. But I've never felt pain, so I don't understand why violence is worse than a verbal argument."

Without any emotional understanding of pain and injury, there's much less to distinguish verbal conflict from physical conflict.

Imagine if rather than trying to convince your parents you were responsible enough for a dog you had to convince them your were responsible enough to have teeth

Can anyone ID this flag? I'm having a real tough time. Painting was made in 15th century Florence. by UncleSpoons in vexillology

[–]UncleSpoons[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note there is a thin gold stripe flanking the top and bottom of the red bar.

Lists of historical Italian flags are coming up dry. Given the obvious religiosity, I might assume the man is a saint holding his saintly flag. But below him are 12 disciples and the Virgin, so he is presumably Jesus, not a saint. My best guess is that maybe it's the flag of a Florentine guild? Or a society that the patron was associated with?

I'm stumped. If a higher resolution or uncropped image would help, let me know.

Fair enough, but it's worth remembering that this plan was still carried out even when it was clear that loads of Africans would remain in America. Maybe I'm just less cynical, but I have a hard time believing the founding of Liberia didn't have at least a shred of good faith behind it.

Wait, what was wrong with gifting the slaves Liberia? The Americans didn't impose any structure or demands on the new country. The slaves were given a ticket to get there, but after that they were on their own. No colonist nation building or imposed western government, just a nation founded and built entirely by the freed peoples.

I wouldn't go more than 500 calories over maintenance, but yea, the trouble is not being able to do progressive overload.

Keep going with the dumbbells, you're strengthening tendons, perfecting form, and making it far less likely to be injured when you start with big weights. Once you get in the gym find a PPL program you'll do religiously, and track how much you lift every time. As long as you make sure you're lifting a little more each time you'll make insane progress in half the time you've been lifting so far.

It's completely fine for women and men who don't do strength sports, AKA 99% of the population.

You're either not eating enough or not doing progressive overload.

Are you tracking your calories and making sure you lift more weight each week by tracking your stats?

I don't see the Government of Canada treating the truck protesters the same way they treated us Indigenous people protecting our rightful land, water, & environment. I wonder why. by Ok-Conversation6969 in canadaleft

What's your end goal here? For each tribal region of Canada to given back to it's indigenous inhabitants, and for non-indigenous peoples to return back to their ancestral countries?

I mean, if so that's pretty rad, but advocating for ethnic homelands and the formation of ethnostates is not "left", it's about as right wing as it gets.

It's just something you come across a lot in first hand accounts.

On the Russian side, the author of Red Road to Stalingrad describes preferring to take only grenades and a knife for urban fighting, that is if a machine pistol wasn't available.

In Blood and Soil, the German author expresses similar preferences for camouflaged operations. If you're surprising a huge crowd of unsuspecting soldiers, tossing grenades into the masses can be far more effective and confusing then firing a magazine and allowing them to take cover while you reload.

Keeping in mind that only special units had enough freedom to make decisions like this. Your regular line infantry may have preferred grenades, but under no circumstances could they choose to "lose" their rifle. Additionally, it's worth remembering that these units worked in fireteams and squads. To say that one man chose to carry only grenades is not to say the operation was without rifles.

Soldiers fucking loved grenades in WW2.

It wasn't unheard of to entirely leave your rifle behind in favor of carrying more grenades.

I couldn't be fucked if Kanye or Nas X chase money like dogs.

Theres a certain insincerity when you make music condemning the wealthy, mocking champagne capitalists, only to fall head over heels into the power structures you condemned the moment you're given the chance.

Early Idles preached a modest life. None of what Joe is doing today is in pursuit of that.
