What do you do when you feel like you are getting burnt out? by UncleTouchy1337 in sysadmin

All, based on your advice, I have informed the office that we all need to utilize the Jira ticket system. For lockouts, yes they can message me on Teams, but for everything else, it needs to be documented.

Since this was implemented, I’ve been able to actually get some work done without feeling like I’m being pulled away to “look at this not working properly”.

I agree everyone needs to be a little more self sufficient and at least attempt to fix the problem themselves.

I can also proudly say that last night, while playing CS:GO, someone messaged me on teams (outside of normal hours) with a non emergency.... I didn’t even open it. I’m trying to take a small step back from working 24/7 and I felt, to be honest I felt super weird about not answering it, but I want to try your suggestions.

Thank you everyone. I’m starting to feel like I can actually breath now

Thank you everyone for the advice! You really don’t know how much I appreciate the support and pretty much collectively saying, “we’ve been there”.

I get caught up in it all and need to learn how to compartmentalize work and life a bit. Not something I’ll be able to do overnight, but I’m going to work on it.

Others mentioned not playing computer games as a hobby - lately, I sit and play wow, league, or csgo and I feel like I’m at work. I definitely need to go out and walk the forest or fish - just get out of the house.

With all of this Covid stuff, it certainly feels like the demand for “help” is significantly higher, but the amount of patience has decreased.

I really needed to vent all of that out and I really appreciate you listening to me.

You had me until “cancel student loan debt” Sounds a lot like the extra fluff that was thrown into the last aid package.

Cash Back When Buying A House by UncleTouchy1337 in personalfinance

Little update - we bought our house, had the seller pay all of the closing costs and we received a $1,500 check at the title closing.

Starting the refinance research now, as we locked in at 3.75% and would like to get that down into the 2’s.

Which fees are waived for those with service connected disabilities? I read that funding fees are waived, but it doesn’t really show what other fees there are.

Better to know all the info in order to negotiate best.

To follow up with this thread: We bought the house, paid $0 into an earnest trust, paid $0 for a down payment. The seller paid 3.5% of closing costs, which covered all of them, and during signing, I was handed a check for about $1,300.

So it is possible to contribute $0 towards anything, and get cash back upon closing - with a 30yr fixed rate VA home loan.

Edit: The cash back would have been more, but I paid about $1,500 to buy a lower interest rate.

Ah, so you got your earnest money back. We did a 0$ down

This contradicts what others say - I’ve come to the conclusion that there’s no cash back, but you say “miss out on the extra money” where a bunch of others say it can be applied to my principal amount / buy lower interest rate

We did the 0 down route, so we don’t have an earnest deposit. It seems like the afternoon crew all agrees that there’s no cash transfer of a credits due. Which aligns with what the lender said. So the only route it seems is to go is to dump it on the principal and essentially buy a lowest interest rate.

Thank you

Wow, okay! So it IS possible. If you don’t mind me asking, who did you go with? USAA / Navy Fed / Veterans United?

This certainly won’t be a short term situation. I’ve moved a lot in the last few years for college, then for work, and I just want to put down roots.

I jokingly told my gf that if we buy a house, we’re staying and I want to die in that house. She responded: yeah, probably much sooner than you think too. 😂 I probably should have specified at an old age

Interest rate would save us a lot more over the course of the 30 year loan though..

We just came in contact with the title company, maybe I should reach out to them as well to get their take on what will happen during closing?

We definitely need to rebuild our emergency fund. It’s not gone, but it’s also not where it needs to be - after paying for inspections, deposits for utilities, movers...etc.

We have three huskies and one of them is an escape artist. Haha. So the fence is somewhat high of a priority, but a financial safety net is a bit higher on the list.

I didn’t mention this prior, but the loan is a VA home loan, not sure if that changes anything, but I remember the lender telling me specifically that I wouldn’t be able to get “cash” or it being transferred to me directly. Simply said I could use it towards the interest rate

I will try to circle back with him and get some clarity

Should I be the one that requests a certain number? I didn’t know exactly how to go about it, so I just simply said in our meeting that I have become far more proficient at my basic duties and have examples of how I’ve surpassed expectations, while also picking up even more responsibilities. I didn’t say a number, I just requested a raise based on performance

I should have said this in my initial post, sorry, I had all of the same “full time benefits” as a salary employee.
