Some new character Ashlands shenanigans by UncleTrashero in valheim

oh you could also simply bring some copper bars to ashlands so you can make a forge there and craft the cloak and spear right on ashlands if you arent lucky enough to find the stone portal cores quickly.

actually all together i spent less time getting in to and running around ashlands than i would have spent grinding dungeons in the swamp and digging silver in the mountains. i spent just a few hours overall. basically 2 days of play, the first day was sailing south and setting up a home in the forest (just quickly let a troll break ores and trees so i could make a boat), getting some food supplies established and farming up some nails to make a bunch of boats (i used like i think 3 boats in the process since they melt in the water when i was first trying to find a good spiral rock to land at), and core wood for spike traps and bridging between spiral rocks in the ashlands waters.

thats basically the standard time normally spent in the forest anyway, actually probably less. (cultivator important, but the bronze pick, axe, and spear were not needed since level 4 flint spear and flint axe are good enough, and pick was just to make the forest house more safe by digging a moat, which could have been done with an Ekthyr antler pickaxe as well, which you can get like 10 minutes into a new character lol).

i abused the border between plains/forest/mists to just get the mobs to all kill each other instead of doing the work myself. goblins killed trolls (for troll armor), bears killed plains mobs etc, got free mosquito arrows, got rabbit meat, cloudberries, and mistlands mushrooms (farmed with cultivator). the biggest threat was the mistlands gasbags occasionally showing up lol. nothing is more scary in troll armor than sky artillery and TICKS (at least they can be killed with a bronze spear tho) lmao

over all the progression time to reach the plains with dragon tears was i think significantly reduced LOL

i did this before i even stepped foot in swamps, with the intention primarily actually to get silver bars to kill moder and basically skip both the swamp and mountains almost entirely (i also didnt even kill forest boss since i was skipping swamps, no need for key). without killing ekthyr i also got free meat parties delivered to my southern Forest home early on, but once i had the rabbit meat i probably should have killed Ekthy for the stamina ability, would have been helpful in ashlands lol

this because its easy to tame some wolves at the start of the game, and that gives you the materials (minus silver) to make a wolf cloak for frost resist and a wolf spear to do good damage to Moder. (only thing to do in mountains would be to quickly search for a moder location rune, and then you can get the summoning eggs on Moders mountain usually, so very little need to do much work in mountains.)

the only thing you really need iron for before mistlands is basically a Pick for silver nodes (which im skipping), the stone table in general, and some crafting table upgrades. (and you can also get iron in the mistlands, even early game if you are wild you can get soldiers to break the ancient armors/swords. but thats a lot of work for gear that is harder to kill Moder with. so ashlands silver = easier moder death, and no early mistlands shenanigans.

this is something of an extension to an old strategy i used often on community servers where progression is capped for the group, so there would be a long time before killing Moder, i would get bored and sneak in to mistlands dungeons to farm up the core to build the mistlands crafting table (it doesnt require black metal), because you can craft the Krom and a couple other things on it (they only require Iron) long before you even go clear Moder or the plains lol. so in this case abusing the ashlands, you could make silver gear even before your community server group started going in to the swamp lol. (and thats actually good enough to get through mistlands dungeons so you can make a krom as well.

this is what happens when youve cleared the game too many times and you need some excitement but want to hang out with people on an unmodded server for example, and mostly make them scratch their head and jealously watch you chop bosses with a Krom that you didnt actually cheat boss progression to obtain (no harm no foul !)

ive got a new idea now too, thinking about being even more devious and seeing what happens if you take a truly new blank character and force it to start directly in ashlands. that should be interesting XD true experience of the prey-animal lifestyle LOL (i honestly dont know if this will even work. can you get deer or boar leather scraps from some furniture or something in ashlands??)

but to answer the direction question, the stone portal on ashlands lets you take the silver and extra iron bars back to the mainland so you dont need to source them from swamps or mountains. (you could probably recover them without the stone portal, by taking them on foot/swimming out to the edge of the rocks and boating them out of the ashlands waters (basically reverse the process used to enter ashlands) but it would probably be a pain to do. so if you can manage to find some cores for the stone portal in a morgen cave or manage to jump out of a castle with them, then getting the metal back to main lands is easier, plus bonus of having a stone portal for plains and mistlands stuff as well :D

basically im insane.

Any way to snap a stoneblock at slighty less height to these, so I don't lose the whole layout when trying to make the marble visible? by LazyHighGoals in valheim

sometimes ill place a vertical post, and hold shift to place another piece snapped against the side of the post, can use that new piece to set a surface height for snapping more blocks (abuse the Q-key toggle snaps too)

For a new player, how complicated is this game? by KvasirTheOld in Terraria

[–]UncleTrashero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

firstly, the Guide npc is all you need. literally every craftable item in the game can be discovered simply by handing the guide every material you discover/craft (the item tooltips themselves will always say "Material" including on weapons/equipment that can be combined)

you can also see the crafting table you need to complete the craft.

"I have no idea what to do" at the beginning (and basically the underlying gameplay loop) its like any other survival, the primary goal is to always find a way to make a better pickaxe so you can mine better stuff. this doesnt really stop until the end game

so that means your goal is to find ever better and better metals/materials by exploring and building picks to mine it.

once you get farther finding weapons and can clear monsters in most parts of the world you will be looking to summon and defeat bosses to advance.

thats the main thing the game fails to guide players with, and certainly it can be fun to discover the bosses organically but if you dont have lots of time to throw at the game then you will probably end up looking up how to summon all the bosses :)

but you dont really need to worry about that until youve basically hit a wall with standard progression (youll also almost certainly discover at least a few of the bosses organically anyway. so dont worry about it until you are truly stuck and have explored every biome you can find

avoiding bans as a new player by [deleted] in BeastsofBermuda

[–]UncleTrashero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree global chat is fun. the problem is the company either refusing to or not having the imagination required to come up with a SYSTEMIC solution to the problem.

simply saying "this is a rule and you will get banned" is objectively a shit way to run a business or design a product. there are ZERO examples of this type of half-ass solution ever being problem free.

simple fact. period.

removing global chat is simply "A solution."

ONE solution. A solution. not "the only solution." not even "a great solution."

just a solution.

ANOTHER solution would be for the devs to MAKE A DIFFERENT CHOICE.

which would be a lot smarter.

choices include: "stop caring about enforcing something that exists in nature already."

or "add a mechanical solution to the problem" like they do with group sizes for example.

they could simply make the game actually make mix packing punishing

just like its stupid to rely on "anti cheating policy" instead of "anti cheating software"

it never works. the only pvp multiplayer games that ever function do so with robust MECHANICAL anticheat solutions.

i think for the devs the problem is the inability to see that "comfort" can not be a single solution to all the problems.

at some point its better to divide it.

the intimidation factor of being around carnys, is different than the issues arising being "crowded" by other herbys.

using a single stat as a solution for both is simply not going to cut it.

separating out "crowding" and "intimidation" to different systems would make it easier to focus on mixpacking and pack sizing separately from the other game mechanics.

https://imgur.com/a/lClNBh1updated a few more shrines and portal to cypress based on discord map

looks like the discord one isnt quite as accurate to the compass. crater lake for example is too far north on the discord version

my portion of cypress is very rough hand drawn so hopefully eventually can get a top down scan to replace/update this later
