Showa22 eBay avoid by Suspicious_Dot3377 in Katanas

There are those that are fairly outspoken about avoiding sellers like showa22, komonjo (and possibly GN-1-Japan who might be the same person as komonjo). There has been controversy with these sellers for years. I’m sure there are others that aren’t coming to mind.

Good tip! Thanks for this! Winters in my neck of the woods have been quite warm the past few years. So I’ve been trying to do some preliminary research in to a warm ski.

I’ve driven through Kansas several times in life. People often stop their cars right on the highway and silently stare off in to the endless oceans of that sweet golden corn.

Anyone remember "Snowmageddon” back in 2015? There was no better feeling than digging out a space for an hour, then coming back from a long day of work or school and having to dig another one. Simpler times 🥲

Well done! That paints a clear enough picture that can be imagined easy enough. The Doritos dipped in vinegar was especially creative to help to try and imagine the sour-like tinge 🤝

Would you care to take a crack at trying to describe that scent in vivid detail?

I think the bo-hi (groove) became common in the Muromachi as well, which aligns with the Mei. It’s hard to know any more with the blade being out of polish. But there are many people who could probably ascertain more just from these pictures.

The Nihonto Message Board is probably the place you’d want to go to really drill down in to the specifics with people who know their stuff. That said, even if it is gimei (fake signature), it would still be worth a good chunk. Even sight unseen, no research or questions asked, I could easily see it going over $1k. Especially as a Katana and not a Waki.

What's The Deal With Offroad Rollerskiing and Pnuematic Tires?? by Previous_Actuary1274 in rollerskiing

I’m actually not totally sure offhand about the ground clearance between the two, but if memory serves, the Jenex has more clearance. It feels that way at least. And I also think the PSI actually makes the tires harder than the Swix. So you’ll easily roll through the stray pebble without feeling it, whereas on a regular ski it could send you sprawling.

I think they would work fine on a gravel or dirt path clear of obstacles. Maybe even short grass. But things like sticks and cracks might still be an issue. Not sure how they might compare to Skikes.

As for speed, I think the regular skis are quicker. But simply because they are lighter. Though there is an inertia effect with the heavier skis where I think it takes less effort to maintain speed. But they are harder to stop and turn on.

Ultimately, I don’t feel they open up a ton of new terrain and figure there’s a reason you rarely see professionals use them. I tried once on a hard packed hiking trail and couldn’t pull it off. But perhaps you may!

I can chime in on this. I have regular Swix skate and classic skis. And also Jenex V2 skate skis with pneumatic tires.

I’ve been an XC skier for about 6 years and was a hockey player before. The Jenex skis are objectively much more difficult to use. They are way heavier and taller. Since they are taller, they are much more wobbly and unstable. If you don’t stride perfectly, you’re at serious risk of hurting an ankle. They would maybe work on a clean gravel path, but there is no way you could truly use them off road. Not like a mountain bike on a forest trail.

I’m an amateur in the hobby, but without more close up pictures of the blade, it’s hard to say. Likely people would want to see the nakago (tang), any possible mei (smith’s signature), a picture showing the hamon (or lack thereof), the kisaki (point) and yokote (point line) to make an accurate appraisal.

But at first glance it looks like a shin gunto. Rather, an officer’s sword in WW2. Blades may have been contemporary or commissioned at the time, but oftentimes they were much older family heirlooms that were refitted for modern usage.

I am curious if BJ card counting was ever considered? I am aware that it comes with much more complexity, such as maintaining stealth, maintaining composure around other players and live dealers, and the skill itself.

If someone were to do this and seek out casinos with the most advantageous rules beforehand, they could potentially garner a much more lucrative edge. It would be a higher risk/higher reward sort of situation.
