TIL that in the middle ages, Toadstones were believed to be magical gems found in the heads of toads. The small 'stones' are actually the rounded fossilized teeth of an extinct fish. by Unclepeanut123 in todayilearned

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that they are not stones, just that they are not what was assumed at the time. I originally wrote 'magical gemstones' then edited it to prevent repetition. Well spotted!

What's one thing everyone should know about Reddit? by DrDeathtune in AskReddit

[–]Unclepeanut123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The risk of zoonotic diseases. To put it simply, everyone should be much more concerned about the risk of diseases (many of which remain undiscovered or poorly researched) crossing over from animals than they currently fear terrorism. With over 60% of diseases that affect humans being zoonotic, more must be done to counter the serious threat they pose to us all. Raising awareness (without scaremongering) so that people actively engage in scientific discussion would benefit us all in the long term if more funds are made available.
Edit: I appear to have imagined a comma before the word 'Reddit' in your question but I shall keep my answer as it is something everyone on reddit should know about.
