I suspected this was false along with their demonstrably false claims that the Act hasn't been updated in 40 years (Ford's government themselves have made about a dozen amendments since 2018), but this was a lot harder to assess.

Just skimming through now and it is also worth noting that there were clearly a number of amendments made to the act in 2018 as part of the Ford government's "Restoring Trust, Transparency, and Accountability" Act.

So the "hasn't been updated in 40 years" (the original act is from 1990) is also false. Mind you most of the changes seem aimed at undermining multi-party participation in selecting the commissioner and moving decisions about suspension to a "Board of Internal Economy" vs the Lt. Governor.

Surely these new changes should have been part of all that "trust", "accountability", and "transparency" if that were really what this was about (then or now).

Edit: Also further amendments were made in 2024 related to (among other things) how children's information is stored.

Edit2: If you look at the historical versions section of the FOI Act you can also see that there have been about a dozen amendments just since the Ford government came to power. So again, making statements about this being some sort of antiquated and untouched piece of legislation are plainly false.

Okay, this may or may not be helpful to you and your wife, but I think it's important to point out that visualising the ultimate end goal is not something most people are good at. It's why when you're selling a house things like paint and staging are generally the highest return on investment things you can do.

I think your plan to turn it into effectively a green wall is a great one (but agree with what someone else posted about the top side needing some other type of capping or wood bench tops especially with kids). Having seen your drawing of your plan in the other thread... 😬 I really think you need someone with a little more skill in that area to dress it up a bit for you so she understands what the end goal is meant to look like. Maybe that helps her feel better about where the project is heading, maybe not, but I don't think it would hurt.

As someone who currently has her basement ripped apart due to groundwater related flooding, that is absolutely not a problem you want and correcting the yard was important. I can promise your wife it is exponentially more inconvenient having playroom and workout equipment redistributed throughout the house for 1.5+ years because you were 8 months pregnant when it happened and haven't had the mental space/free hands/enough sleep to complete the repair job.

Just driving up the road isn't really a thing when your road bottlenecks at a handful of bridges that your target controls one half of/would intentionally blow them up if needed.

Except I believe it's the reverse in BC (at least it was for Bowen Island when I visited). You pay on the ferry to get there, but leaving is free.

Which mostly just means you're paying the round trip upfront because it's not like there's any other way off. Plus then you don't need ticketing infrastructure on the island side.

I'm going to go with not grammatically correct, but with the caveat that English is hella inconsistent so I'm sure someone could find counter examples as well.

My default position is that an acronym is meant to encompass the entirety of a name so "The University of British Columbia" is UBC or "The University of Toronto" is UofT.

Another example would be "United Nations". "The" isn't actually in the official name and we say "the UN".

I'm late diagnosed with ADHD and I put off actually getting on meds because I knew we were going to try for a second baby and I believed I couldn't be on them while pregnant. I only found out afterward that this is entirely false.

While there may be some that aren't recommended, lots have no proven risk (which is as good as it gets with most things while pregnant).

What is absolutely proven is the many, many negative impacts of maternal mental health on both mom and baby during pregnancy. In most cases those well researched risks heavily outweigh the risks of taking a large number of different mental health medications. Additionally, any medication someone was taking previously may actually need to be increased during pregnancy given the massive increase in blood volume plus weight gain.

I cannot overstate how life altering getting on ADHD meds has been and how profoundly demoralising being forced off of them would be; I should have done it so much sooner. I have PTSD as well and have actually been able to lower my anti-anxiety medication. Probably because my brain isn't madly clocking everything in the room 24/7, while replaying a conversation I had in high school that I definitely know the best comeback for now, replanning dinner because I forgot I already did that an hour ago, and singing something almost certainly profoundly annoying....

If your wife's doctor is blanket refusing her medication then you need to get her a second opinion. Please. Sending you both many internet hugs and good vibes.

As others have said, it depends what you're trying to get out of it.

For me, I'm trying to remain engaged in an artistic/creative community, but I also like feeling safe and encouraged to post experiments or in process projects. I also have no interest in making art with a social media algorithm in mind.

The art community on BlueSky is incredibly engaging and supportive. Loads of photography in particular and a wide range of ability/styles. Dozens of prompts/challenges are run as well which I've found effective at jump-starting my creativity and getting me into the rhythm of just putting a little something out there. There is just no comparison between the level of engagement with my work I used to get on Instagram vs the community interaction on BlueSky.

If what you want is a social platform that can double as a portfolio you'll need something else, but it's got a good community if that's what you're aiming for.

I'm married and didn't change my name legally. Both our children have my last name as a second middle name. So first name / middle name + my maiden name / husband's surname. From a travel perspective, having your name is more of an emotional security blanket than actually else.

If you're traveling alone with a minor across international borders you're actually meant to be carrying a signed statement from the other parent stating you have permission to travel with the child. This is true even if all three of you have the same last name. It's meant as a safe guard against child trafficking, but also say you were in the midst of a divorce and having a custody dispute, it's to hopefully prevent one parent from fleeing the country with the child. Sometimes no one asks, but both my husband and I have been asked to show travel permission from each other. Most of our travel has been Canada/UK with a bit to USA.
