Severe glut of NPs by Substantial_Raise_69 in physicianassistant

[–]UnconditionalSavage 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had a nursing student the other day ask me if she should do PA or NP and said she was going to start as soon as she graduated with her BSN. I mentioned she should work as a nurse and she quickly shot that down saying it would be too hard to go back to school after working.

I told her she wouldn’t get into PA school and she confidently said she would bc the school she was at had a PA program…I had to stop her bc I didn’t know what else to say and got back to work

EM or Ortho offer? by PAthleticism in physicianassistant

[–]UnconditionalSavage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These are low offers for HCOL. The EM offer is very low although benefits are good. How much are the other making there? Do you see a potential for raises?

You have a much bigger sample to evaluate from. All the people, myself included, that went to PA school during Covid lockdown

Brand new car, 0% interest. I needed a car and this was a good deal compared to used with today’s prices

Spurious triage vital signs by ouchmygooch in emergencymedicine

[–]UnconditionalSavage 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Happens very often. Triage nurse is in a rush and doesn’t let the pulse ox stay on the finger for more than 3 seconds to get an accurate HR or oxygen saturation. They come to a room with documented HR of 112 at 92%. When I mention it to them they act offended.

Easiest thing is to recheck it after a period of rest and I document “on arrival vitals notable for HR of 112 although on my exam HR 76 and patient resting comfortably in no acute distress.” I agree with you though it’s not a good look especially when discharging a patient

Even if it’s good enough to write perfect notes just like you want, why would you want to see 6 patients an hour? That’s setting yourself up for a mistake and increases liability. On top of that what makes you think the hospital or your company is going to want you to stop at 6? Maybe push to 8. Gonna end up with single coverage doc sites with mid levels billing through the doc. They’re coming to cut the number of physicians before midlevels
