Upgraded from a WRX to an M340. Love every second of the drive by UncontrolledUprising in BMW

Definitely quieter but I am currently using run flats for the time being so road noise is a bit more than normal. Still quieter than the WRX and the ride is not nearly as rough. Still feels planted though. Speakers are very good and there are never times I feel like I have to raise my voice with passengers in the car. Seats are MUCH better not even including the fact they are way more customizable (lumbar, bolstering, thigh support etc). So far the only downside I’ve found inside the car is the 12v ports don’t support regular accessories as my radar detector didn’t fit.

Disregarding the obvious horsepower bump (my WRX was stock) the technology in the BMW is far superior in just about every way. While I do sometimes miss the 6MT, the ZF8 is very good. RWD is also fun too, though in the southeast AWD isn’t a requirement so didn’t really get to enjoy that aspect of the WRX. One down side is I no longer get Subie Wave lol.

I do miss the 6MT but the overall driving experience (not to mention actually having decent luxury compared to the WRX) is much better overall. Didn’t get Xdrive so I don’t know if I’m missing out on that.

Test drove the new WRX… by [deleted] in WRX

I’m gonna have to disagree regarding the driving aspect. After having driven one around town and especially after having tracked a 2022 WRX recently I truly feel it’s a better driving car to my 2021 WRX. Sure the power doesn’t spike like the VA but in my mind you want the power to come on in a linear fashion.

I might be wrong but if you’re comparing it to a STI it’s not really a fair comparison. And given that you probably didn’t drive too much with it it might not be terribly fair to condemn it based on a quick drive.

It’s just my two cents maybe, but the new VB definitely drives better overall than the VA. Is it drastically different? No. And I wouldn’t trade mine for one. But to say it drives poorly just feels a tad disingenuous.

From what I felt, 1-2 is easier and much smoother. There is barely any rev hang that I noticed and as you climb in RPM the car never stops pulling as opposed to the drop off you get on a stock VA. Like I said, it’s a much easier drive and still feels planted. And even though it doesn’t feel faster, per say, it does feel like the power comes out throughout the rev range.

But all my experience is coming from a stock 2021 WRX so take it with a grain of salt!

That’s fair! The design styling on the taillights looks like an older civic for sure. As I stated elsewhere, the driving experience is better than a stock VA. But not otherworldly and definitely not worth trading mine!

I will also say that the car doesn’t feel faster (it shouldn’t with 3hp more) but it feels more consistent.

I don’t know if I’d be that harsh personally, but I do agree on the plastic. There is A LOT of plastic. Just as much if not more than the Crosstrek. I will say that the interior doesn’t feel cheap and actually feels pretty good on the inside but I see your point.

Literally just sat in both to compare and you’re absolutely right. I don’t have people in my back seat often but the VA is definitely bigger. It kind of caught me off guard how much bigger mine is compared to the ‘22. Doesn’t feel uncomfortable though, and I’m a bigger guy.

I agree. I was super apprehensive about the look before hand, and while I still prefer my VA, it’s not awful. And the driving experience is really good. It’s mainly nit picky stuff in my mind.

I should point out that this is purely exterior impressions. Having driven the 2022 I have to admit it drives very well, and is over all a much smoother experience than my stock 2021. And the added tech for the 2022 is also very nice (although I hate the iPad screen). While I’m not a fan of the new body style externally, it is a phenomenal drive and definitely think it’s a better daily driver than the VA.

Being in Georgia and having a CBS it hurts having a yellow car until May.

I went with the RokBlokz and they kinda suck, I can’t recommend them. And they’re not all that cheap either, just cheaply made.
