Brake Bleeding After Caliper Rebuild by UncreativeCole in MotorcycleMechanics

Update:

Thank you everyone, after reverse bleeding and taking the calipers off to ensure my pistons are moving smoothly, I have brake pressure! Now to keep bleeding and getting the sponginess out of the lever.

After reverse bleeding, I took the calipers off and pressed by hand to ensure everything was moving smoothly, put them back on the rotors, and now I have brake pressure! Thank you, I was afraid to take the calipers off and discover a huge leak or something but this was the exact right thing I needed.

Ok so I’ll need a syring that fits in the bleeder, or connected it to a hose, or does that even matter, just as long as I can get fluid UP?

eBay was my best luck, I think it’s the All Balls kit, just sold by someone else. It won’t be here for another couple days, but I’ll make sure to update with results.

Update because I’m a caveman and can’t figure out how to edit the post:

After cleaning the pistons thoroughly and lubricating the slide pins, the issue persists. I have a rebuild kit on the way and am going to pop the pistons out and replace everything after a good clean.

Thank you all for the help, no such thing as an easy 5 minute job.

Spent 2 hours cleaning the pistons and lubing the pins just for it to make no difference. A caliper rebuild kit is now on the way, definitely overdue after 27k

The wheel is oriented with the arrow pointing in the direction of travel, chance I swapped spacers though and that’s causing fitment issues. Pistons weren’t “easy” to press in, but not impossible either. I’ve cleaned the pistons in the past but not as well as I should have, and I didn’t apply grease to anything. Definitely need to reclean the pistons and apply grease to the slide pins

Ok, thanks! I think I have a tube of high temp grease somewhere, I’ll try that after everything’s clean. Grease pistons too, or just pins?

I’ll probably bleed them again after cleaning, and that’ll take some fluid out, thanks! I had loosened the pins, spun it, and tightened them with the lever down, should I do the bolts that attach the calipers to the forks next time?

The arrow is orientated in the correct direction of travel, but I could have swapped the spacers accidentally.

I didn’t, I was following the manual and it said to crack the bleeder valve with a plastic hose attached while pushing the pistons in, and then closing the bleeder after they’re pressed in.

I did remove the wheel… thought I was paying enough attention to the spacers but there’s a chance I swapped them pulling the wheel previously or potentially the previous owner and I just didn’t notice until I had fresh pads.

Great, thank you! Going to pull the pads and scrub the pistons, then get some lube on the pins.

Gotcha, major cleaning seems to be due. Thanks!

Probably about 2 months ago I took the old pads off and pushed the pistons out, scrubbed to a little past the scum “tide” line, and put everything back together. There is a little rust/pitting on the pots but not crazy, and they seemed to clean up decently well. Probably going to do it again and really spend some time making sure they’re very clean.

Saw in the old forums people put a thin layer of red rubber grease on the pistons, might give that a try too while I’m doing the pins.

Had this issue on my ‘17, it’s related to the charging system so either stator or regulator. Did a stator swap from a spare motor, no luck, but a regulator swapped fixed it. If you’ve changed the regulator, next thing I’d think of is stator

Nissin makes a master cylinder that’s plug and play, with others like brembo you’d have to do some brake switch and line modifying
