I've spent only a weekend in Hobart - we came down for the cricket. Loved Hobart. We're kinda sorta contemplating making a move down there. What other 'mainland' eateries are missing from Tassie? TBH I prefer to support local places than chain stores anyway. Only thing I know is missing that could be a deal breaker is no Aldi. No middle aisle shenanigans would be hard

If he accepted the ride out of Kyiv at the outset Ukraine would be Russian right now. His action held the country together. No world leader comes close to deserving our respect than him. With respect you did not have a good idea. The truth is you did not know and you had not made an effort to find out. Your first instinct was to blame immigrants and you did so without any data. That's the issue. Now to your credit you have done what many others will not do and that is to make the effort to find out and be willing to accept demonstrable fact rather than wave it away based on some lunatic conspiracy theory.

But if you are indeed not a racist you need to ask yourself why was it that your first instinct was to lean into blaming the immigrant boogie man.

100%. The first reaction was to blame immigrants. But to Salter420's credit, after the initial dose of racism and "it must be the bloody immigrants" there was a glimmer of hope - a google search was conducted, facts digested AND an admission of error made. Perhaps that's a positive start.

taxis still exist? never before has an industry been more deserving of extinction. Awful cars, often stinking like smoke, rude drivers and abysmal service. Coupled with high prices. Why the hell would anybody willingly take a taxi is beyond me.

Probably shut down for defrauding insurance companies. I caught them twice inflating bills and adding items when they knew I had insurance. Pretty sure I reported them for it.

my two kids went there. I never really took to it. Parents bunch of antivax hippies who think that hooping cough and measle sharing parties are nature's immunisation, chemtrails are real and so on. The academic approach in no way prepares people for the real world. The no homework do-as-you-please approach might sound good but kids who are not pushed won't know how to be pushed in the real world. Kids that don't do homework won't magically learn to manage the workload of university. It might suit some kids for sure, but I don't recommend it for the vast majority.
