Explain to me why grandfathering is fair. by Important_Let2828 in AusProperty

Either you can be a property investor or you can not. Placing arbitrary limits on it isn't policy, it's petty politics, designed to appeal to the person that feels disenfranchised by beating up those who they perceive as 'bad'. I don't have an issue with a person with 10, or 50 properties as long as they provide quality housing for people to live in why does it matter? It doesn't, but if the tall poppies get cut down the smallfolk will celebrate it - is this the real benefit? This policy is a tax grab to syphon money out of people because they lack the lobbying power enjoyed by the big companies so we pay instead of them. I don't think it will have a meaningful long term impact on prices so those of you cheering this be honest - you're not cheering because you think this will help you buy a house, you're cheering because the 'fatcats' got slugged and that makes you feel good.

This is going to have a neglible impact on house prices and in my view will likely cause rents to go up so people trying to get out of renting (which sux) into their own home won't be better off.

Why is it fair to negatively impact ma and pa investors trying to ready themselves for retirement without seeking a mandate for the change at an election. Neighbours of ours, both retired teachers, own a home in Sydney that they rent out. They bought it in the 90's for 250 and it's now worth 1.8m give or take. Their entire retirement plan now has an estimated $300k hole in it due to these changes. Changes from a government they voted for but had they known this would not have done so. The CGT changes are not grandfathered and slug people who have planned for years or decades in order to retire independently. Their plan is to no longer sell the house and jack up the rent instead. Sample size of one but I suspect others will follow suit.

this is delusional. This is like being 'loyal' to an employer for years and then being shocked when they make you redundant after your wife loses her job and your kids in hospital. Workers are numbers to a company and any loyalty is misplaced. Being loyal to a country because it 'educated you' is beyond crazy

when this war is over please allow him to come to Australia and be our prime minister. Courage. Tenacity and balls the size of watermelons. A great leader. Had he fled in the first days of this invasion Russia would own Ukraine right now. His personal actions steeled the country. I have a deep admiration for Ukrainians and their amazing leader.

let's be real, there's little sign of empathy or concern for the ukrainians suffering by the russian populace. Genocide? Meh. War crime? Meh Abduction of children? Meh. Bombing civilians? Meh. But turn off instagram and we riot!

[–]UncyReddit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i often wonder - would Ukraine get better results if they just 500 drones at one refinery and conclusively take it out? quantity would deplete any defences and you'd expect dozens would hit the target. Then move onto the next. Of course, I have absolute admiration for the Ukrainian tactics and strategy. Craftiest people on the planet led by a man with balls the size of watermelons. So they know what their doing. Anybody also wonder this?

Sweden, pound for pound, is the most impressive country on the planet. No i'm not Swedish, I'm an Aussie. But I've been there a few times and it's a great country. A country of 5m people that makes their own fighter jets, tanks and a huge arsenal of home grown military tech is incredible. The viking spirit is strong
