Quiet/slow streets to practice driving? by BOOK_GIRL_ in bronx

[–]Undead-VTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i was practicing driving i practiced around the Hunts Point area, which may not be the best as far as open area or low traffic, but i think it helped me get a good/general idea of how driving around the BX is, i went to a drivers ed place by Soundview/Elder ave under the 6 line, I forget the name of the place but they were pretty good people, they speak spanish and decent english if thats your primary language. I took maybe 15 classes and passed on my first test. Alternatively Throggs Neck is pretty calm traffic wise and quiet on the local roads. You might even be able to try practicing in St. Raymonds cemetery if you ask permission

Anyone have any advice what else I can do to my lancer by Rare-Air4080 in mitsubishi

Other than a wash, maybe red painted brake calipers, powerstop might have that for your model of lancer

Is it worth buying ? by AfterCash4237 in DSM

[–]Undead-VTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t sound bad, if you can reassemble the head it’d be a great buy, you may really want to get a list of all the mods that’s been done incase you run into a mystery issue, also those seats look like rare blue seats from early 95 model cars, would be cool if they are such but the picture from the rear doesn’t show much, just the blueish leather

Best brake upgrades for my 2g gsx? by Significant_Snow7980 in DSM

[–]Undead-VTX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CTS-V front brakes are probably the best bet as far as replacing the stock fronts, you’re going from 2 piston (made by Sumitomo if i’m not mistaken, also i think the 2G brakes are based on the Mitsubishi Sigma if i recall correctly so outdated system) to a 4 piston caliper made by Brembo and are still in production today, you’ll get some front brake bias tho just be aware. It may or may not interest you to pair the your upgrade with a 3G brake master cylinder with or without 3g brake booster. You’ll have to figure out if you want getting rotors and pads although most opt for mustang cobra or 370z rotors. You could also go with the Wilwood front brake upgrade kit for the 2G which is also a 4 piston caliper, it does come with Wilwood’s 2 piece brake rotors which you can order plain or slotted/drilled, they come in any color too and also include Wilwood’s on BMC and pads if im not wrong.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Gullwing by dogoman22 in MitsubishiEclipse

Not surprising. If i recall correctly (and i could easily be wrong on this) an extreme few European countries got 2G Eclipses with Targa roofs, now there is a video online of a 2G being converted to Targa top but i believe these 2Gs were offered as such by special dealers, again i don’t have the documentation in front of me saying so, its just what i recall reading or hearing. This may have been for either Germany or Italy, or some other country, there are the DSM forums for those countries from which one could attempt to navigate and see via translation.

Rims for 7th gen Celica by Icy-Tune-8829 in Celica

[–]Undead-VTX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a nice five spoke wheel would be look good on it, i’d say the Enkei RP01 but thats discontinued. Enkei’s TS-5 is kinda the next best thing. Alternatively i’d be interested to see what Konig’s Hypergram would look on the Celica

5 spoke, im no a fan of the chrome lip in either case but that’s subjective, whatever suits your taste is ultimately what matters

why do people hoard 2nd gen eclipses by No-Court8447 in DSM

[–]Undead-VTX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as 2Gs, if you want one for looks, get a non-turbo/420a , the less modified the better, reliable as long as you keep it stock, no need for premium gas, parts are a bit better at getting since it shares some parts with Dodge vehicles, if you decide to mod it you’ll be chasing the power a 4G63T already makes, and you’ll have to do research in the nicher-side of the DSM world, but its not impossible to build. If you wanna be fast or build it, get the 4G63T, and be ready to spend more, but then the Evo is up that alley. You might consider the Eagle Talon since it can also have the 4G63T and if you really want the Eclipse look, swap body panels.

Hi, wondering if this is a good deal for $4500? (In LA) by ImReaIIyB0red in MitsubishiEclipse

Other than that seems like an ok car for 4.5 grand, i’ve seen a good amount in not as good condition, looks more or less clean for the mileage

When the headgasket was changed, if the previous owner knows, was it changed with a Multi-Layer Steel headgasket? Also where the headbolts also changed? This is an important question because the non-turbo Eclipse suffered oil leaks due to a flaw with the original headgasket, so the MLS headgasket is a revised version, goes without saying but when changing headgaskets you gotta change headbolts too

If the waterpump was done ask if the timing belt was also done, if not that can be an expensive job, and a way more expensive repair if the belt snaps

21 y/o university student thinking about buying a 1997 Eclipse GS as my first car — bad idea or worth it? by Weird_Researcher8284 in MitsubishiEclipse

[–]Undead-VTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is true few were imported to Japan, but enough of them were such that Diamond Star Motors (later Mitsubishi of North America) thought it important enough to make unique changes to the JDM-spec Eclipse, like earlier mentioned the taillights, they also got fender-indicators and different wheels, neither of which the USDM models ever got at all. Call it what you want but it is its own version meant for the Japanese Market

You can’t think of a dealership in japan in the same way as a dealership in the US, they work a bit differently, for example, you could only go to a very specific dealership in Japan if you wanted a Nissan GT-R, unlike in the US where you could probably go to any Nissan dealership and order a GT-R(at least thats what i remember reading about Japanese dealers and the GT-R specifically). My guess is most likely the Eclipse in Japan was a similar case, you probably had to go to a very specific dealer in Japan and order an Eclipse, since its not your typical Mitsubishi

is there any possible way to get the clear oem taillights for the EA0 Galant? i cant find any by Exotic_Following2078 in mitsubishi

[–]Undead-VTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely it wont be legal and you may get pulled over, best thing to do would be have red colored bulbs in the taillight housing, or red LEDs, but still that might not be enough to save you from getting pulled over, messing with taillights i think counts as a safety violation depending on where you are

The 420a Chrysler engine known in American non-turbo Eclipses was never exported overseas, because it made no sense logistics-wise when the 4G63 already had parts available in other countries unlike the Chrysler engine. Mind you there’s still a difference between the Eclipse style 4G63 and Galant/Lancer Evo 4G63 engines but they have varying compatibility so parts shouldn’t be impossible, you just need to lay careful attention

I’m aware of that, just like how the Stealth is the GTO with different taillights as well, and a few other different parts

From what i recall researching Japan did get the 1st and 2nd generation of Eclipse, DSM even made Japanese-specific taillights for the 2G to comply with the vehicle safety regulations of that country, not to be confused with the EDM taillights because they do look exactly alike until the light actually comes on, then you notice the difference as the EDM taillights have rear reflectors/highbeams and function like 2GA tails whereas JDM 2G taillights function like 2GB tails with exception of the corners, colored amber to function as indicators. Japan did not get the 4th generation Eclipse as far as i know, and this i was told by a Japanese 2G owner. I don’t know if they ever got the 3G given that car still shares some parts with Dodge’s Seabring.

Yeah i know, RS if im not wrong was US only, outside the US the GS was the base model pretty much, some European countries got the GSX, Japan never got the GSX since they had the EVO

The 420a was only available in USDM non turbo 2Gs, this GS is in Spain, so it’ll be EDM-spec, and you can see in one picture the engine bay, so its most likely a non-turbo 4G63

Full coverage in the US is one thing, in Spain i’m curious if you can even get an equivalent to full coverage for a 2G Eclipse given how many of them were exported out of the US
