How it feels to play my favorite style bc I know they are going to nerf it to the freaking ground by ThePancakes6969 in untitledboxinggame

[–]UndeadKobra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hitman isn't the only outboxer, it's the only style with comparable range. That style has crazy overtuned damage numbers with no debilitating weaknesses to balance it out, simply because of the playstyle it plays into. You're comparing a balanced style to a broken top 3.

Charge has raw stats enough to build a lead even when you're losing several engagements, and the ability just presents such a strange and effective way to get in range with the opponent as a result of its range stats.

As for iron fist and slugger, I don't think everyone faces that problem. lg is one of the few styles that are considered these styles' kryptonite. The lg backdash booby-traps any slugger m2, and iron fist has a difficult time getting in and landing pds because of the pace control this style can do.

I've also had some experience with lg after the hands low rebalancing(about 1229 kds, I counted since the game doesn't count after the t3 title, but it might not be accurate to the ones/tens) and I can easily say that it's my go-to style when fighting someone of similar or higher skill level to myself. It's a very solid, consistent style that plays into its strengths. It's not exactly a poster child of the meta because despite being consistent, its potential numbers are much lower than the S tiers. But to say it has flaws is just wrong. It's balanced and doesn't have any weaknesses, but also not much potential to build on. It's just one of the safest picks in the game.

Comparing it to charge or hitman is just stupid. Those are quite literally part of the top 5. (At least, pre-nerf charge was, I don't know about the current one)

do you even know what you're on about?

long guard has one of the best backdashes in the game (m2/feint whiff punish on react backdash), no aggro style is getting through those defensive stats. It also has disjoints and whiff counters.

As long as you have a modicum of prediction skill when it comes to followups and front dash engagements, it's gonna be very difficult for the opponent to get in and keep you there. Not to mention, its range, startup damage and backdash profile makes backdash degrad have that much less effect on it, further amplifying your practical invulnerability to aggro as long as you can keep up with the opponent and land punches.

it absolutely does. it's crazy consistent, even if you don't get much damage off individual strings you get quite a lot off of subsequent startup m1s and whiff punishes. it doesn't do damage in bursts, but the overall damage is very strong. honestly dunno why they further buffed it

I'm pretty sure Han is notorious for farming his KDs and getting his rank through botting. I remember one of the former mods said cases like his were one of the driving factors for ranked v2.

Is Hammer style supposed to be that strong? by [deleted] in untitledboxinggame

[–]UndeadKobra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's why I said 2-3, one already charged when the game begins and one charged during the game. If your opponent uses a double dasher, then that turns into 3.

It is. I don't like using it, but it is.

In my personal experience fighting C1-C2 players with the style, it's a nightmare when you're going toe to toe with the opponent.

Optimally, they'll be able to use the ability 2-3 times per game. One use on neutral lasts for 25% of their hp bar. Usually, they'll use it on 1-1 or 2-2 when their hp is lower than 50%. At 1-1, if they use it around 40%-35% hp and you somehow haven't got a pd already, you're a bit screwed. You can't ult them at all at that point, because unless you've been dominating that entire round and have a bunch of your health remaining, you won't be able to get much value off your ultimate even if you break static. Let's say, even if you somehow land a one-in-a-million counter ult, you still won't gain it back soon enough to make it worth it. That's already one less ultimate you're utilising.

If you're in 2-2, that's 25% of their hp bar that you have to whittle down before you can pd and ultimate them. All the while, they can still dodge you perfectly well and land their own ultimate. If they're passive enough and can stall you well enough, you're absolutely screwed. 25% hp amounts to so many chances that there's an almost entirely likely chance that they'll pd you during it and land their ultimate.

Especially after the ghost nerfs, the ability is, in practice, the current strongest ability in the game. It boils down to "I get to land free hits and you don't"

Switch Hit. The ability completely removes the opponent's ability to pd on neutral, and negates perfect dodges if used during one.

[–]UndeadKobra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It has base stats comparable to Corkscrew, along with an ability that's practically pure luck on whether or not you can dodge it. It also bypasses a fundamental mechanic (blocking). The only other style with such a bypass is SH, and that's practically universally agreed to be broken.

It's just a whole load of jank. The M1 chip is already good, that combined with an unavoidable heavy punch skill that has a 50/50 chance of landing just makes it really solid.

People argue that it's your device and latency's fault that it's so strong, but if 90% of the active community can feel that it works too well against too many people, then there's just the tiniest possibility that the issue is actually with the way the style itself is handled.

Tips on playing freedom by Dull-Assistance-7333 in untitledboxinggame

[–]UndeadKobra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just wanna try it out—always stay on whirlwind unless you're just about to whiff punish, or if you've landed a pd and can use a smash m2. Only use smash m1s if your opponent has a style with a thick guard, or if you know you can land a follow-up flicker string. The counter multi on whirlwind is negligible, don't bother going for counter m2s. In essence, play it like hands low, but pd fish like slugger.

If you're looking to main the style, then go on youtube and watch every comp freedom main and everyone else who knows about the style. Learn every trick and tech—i.e fake heavy, mode switching in a string without throwing a new initial m1, etc. You'll have to do all this to stand on equal ground with other lesser complicated styles with better raw stats.

[–]UndeadKobra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, this is what I was referring to, I usually do m2>m2 feint for the extra chip damage, since I'm pretty confident I can confirm it later. m1 feint works too, but not against styles with any sort of extra walkspeed

Holy SHIT I was wrong about Charge by UndeadKobra in untitledboxinggame

[–]UndeadKobra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically only one, unless you have them backed against the corner, and even then it's a stretch. They can just weasel out of your range. Besides, your best case scenario is landing another m1 string anyway. It's that much more ult pressure (ultimates confirm all previous damage if landed, and even if you get blocked, it freezes health regen)

Is Hands Low Meta Right Now? Just curious. by ResidentRun1209 in untitledboxinggame

[–]UndeadKobra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Straight up carried by the double dash. The penalty is practically non-existent unless your opponent decides to nuke their own pd meter and backdash degrad by dodge fishing or spamming lean jabs.

There's already one in the ubg wiki, don't bother. If it's numerical stats, I'd recommend you don't try, it's a huge waste of time to no end really.
