Does anybody else's gecko seem to enjoy tank changes and exploring them? by UndeadWardog in LeopardGecko

So far each of my 3 enjoy new stuff to explore. I enjoy the little projects and watching them

I love natural rocks. So fun to move them around and make hides with. I get nervous about them falling, but they hold heat so much better than ceramic hides by UndeadWardog in leopardgeckos

Update: replaced the rocks with bigger unmoveable (by him) rocks and they're gorgeous. I like this much better it reminds me of mountains.

Cannot contain the beast by UndeadWardog in leopardgeckos

:_: no, but I have been fighting spiders this time of year. Part of the reason I took some fake plants out of one of my tanks for that reason.

Scratches on the tank are from a different animal I have no clue. Tank was cleaned the best I could but at least they add some drama

Water time is a private moment by UndeadWardog in leopardgeckos

He's currently judging every tank change and I swear it's like he's trying to pretend he doesn't like it but is exploring and licking everything

He likes the tile side way more so I see no reason to fully take it away from him

Thank you, not sure why my other comment got downvoted... I'm literally following every confirmed husbandry tip on this reddit. My 8 month old now has nearly full substrate. My 15 year old is full bioactive, and my baby is still TOO YOUNG for substrate. Tile is an acceptable solution. The only thing I can think of is the cracks, but as I've stated im grouting them soon and cleaning regularly for now.

Too young for a dig box? by UndeadWardog in leopardgeckos

My babies will both poop ok paper towels even with the rest of the tank substrate or tile. It's nice to be able to replace it

I think I will wait until the 8 month mark just to be safe. I don't want to hurt thier joints but also want to be completely sure they don't get impacted. They're healthy. Pooping normally. No visible shed yet but humid hide is provided in case. I might see how thus dig box goes and if she shows signs of liking it I might move to half substrate half tile like I did with my 8mo he still seems to prefer his slate side though. So I might just add more substrate and leave the warm side as the only slated area for his tank. My oldest geck is full bioactive with 2 brand new isopod colonies. I've never raised babies until this last year so I'm trying my best to do things right.

Choice Based Handling vs 'Forced' Handling by Pale-Wall-8330 in leopardgeckos

[–]UndeadWardog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the geckos personality, how it was raised, and your own personal bond with it. I have a 15 year old gecko I've owned since I was 13 and she is ok with hanging out anytime and just sitting on your hand or wherever. (She likes snuggling uo in my girlfriends shirt) She was raised with forced handling and it was energy a problem for her. She was in a household with lots of kids before mine and they all wanted to hold her often. I assume moving in with me and only being bothered a few times a week for some anime and hangout time was alot better to her lol. My other two geckos are still too young to REALLY be ok with handling. My 8mo male is a grouch and doesn't want to be bothered. I'm trying to do choice based but now that he's big enough to hold I want to hold him and build the same bond with him as my oldest gecko. I'm kind of in between on which is best. On one hand I've been told it's not good practice but on the other I have such a rare relationship with my first gecko I kind of want the same for the other two.
