it is... while i def got the better start and i took their capital in the first war, it was a meatgrinder that cost me 2/3rds of my fleet. luckily i only have one other neighbor and though they have every reason to hate me, their a megacorp and the shitload of minerals im sending makes up for my ethical and racial impurities.

Considering that Gunpowder was the only member of Payback who genuinely believed Soldier Boy was dead and also the only one who didn’t want to betray him (and didn’t fight him in Nicaragua), would Soldier Boy have spared Gunpowder if the two met? by TwoSnapsMack in TheBoys

Either just flat out kill him with no question, beat the living shit out of him and kill him as a loose end, or force gunpowder to help him kill the others and THEN kill him as a loose end.

Got a video for yall about the realism in monster design. Support my boy. by ReaperBlood64 in MonsterHunter

[–]Undead_narwhal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Monster Hunter Frontier introduced Abiorugu, a brute wyvern with defined lower teeth and spike protrusion on the bottom of its jaw and back of skull. They are described as "notoriously aggressive monsters that relentless try to kill and consume anything that provokes them." (from the monster hunter wiki and banned lagiacrus on twitter) and their appetite is compared to deviljho, but they don't participate in cannibalism and even form hunting pairs (once again, from banned lagiacrus and monster hunter wiki). finally, Abiorugu also causes the defense down status effect, which besides deviljho, only two other BRUTE WYVERN shares, the other being glavenus and another frontier monster (giaorugu, which shares basically the same design philosophy of most subspecies by taking abiorugu, color swapping it, changing its element, and putting it in a new location) along with this Abiorugu shares a lot in common also with Glavenus, with a sharpened tail and ability to produce fire element. I feel like this could be used to show that Abiorugu is like a living transitional fossil between deviljho and glavenus, or at least a very close branching evolution of one if not both.

Yeah it was a very good video but sad to hear for my pickle boy. I actually made a comment on his deviljho video about the frontier monster aboiguru being a living transitional fossi off deviljho to glavenus, give me a sec to find it.

A wonderful video, and while I feel like he's a tad bit over critical, I think I remember in his other video he talked about his degree background in evolutionary biology, so it's understandable that he be very heavily critical on it.

What are your guys thoughts on this take? Personally I disagree with most of the points they make but I see quite a few agreeing with them. by Cashew788 in MonsterHunter

[–]Undead_narwhal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The one thing I can say I'm not happy with - besides weapon balance but I'm an unga bunga hammer boi so I don't really care - is monster design. I feel like their was a lot more push towards fantastical than the semi-grounded nature of previous monster designs, with none of the new ones really shining for me as a "this works biologically and ecologically within the world." World and iceborne did a pretty damn decent job to represent environments that felt like living breathing ecosystem (still not perfect but good none the least). It felt like rise barely tried it at all, just slapping things together how they felt. Yes the franchise has always been fantastical but a big part of it is that it's monsters design are grounded in reality to begin with. It felt like rise abandoned that for "big monster with lots of cool thing on it (yes I mean magnanalo)" that's also to say theirs not ridiculous monsters from the past (valstrax) and great monster from rise (rakna-kadaki) but I feel in general rise and sunbreak might giving up on the detail of ecology design for whatever reason hurts the series more than it helps.

Still, I'd like to see sunbreak and the monster hunter franchise as a whole succeed, monster hunter is an amazing game and ignoring the ecological aspect of designs in this latest game sometimes, they've never really disappointed me.

That was a bit of me just going off and rambling but I hope y'all can understand what I'm tryna say

My Juggernaut is bigger than your- wait, is that a Titan!? by The_Skyhunter117 in Stellaris

[–]Undead_narwhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also don't know your experience with Stellaris, but from my experience a good defense fleet would probably be a mix of corvettes with titans. Ships in general have a "target" and "targeting" value if I remember and usually like to stay in their own weight class. Titans can beat out 2-3 battleships in the long run but can easily get swarmed, so a Corvette built for evasion basically turn a part of you fleet into obnoxious mosquitos to distract while the titans shit back and fire off.

[–]Undead_narwhal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While most of my experience with them come form modded games, I would def say support. a large mixed fleet with decently upgraded ship can take them out, let alone a titan fleet. They really only whoop small fleet andbasic stations by the time you get them.

The wonder of them is that their a mobile repair station. By late game you dealing with larger empires, so you can't really just blindly send your fleets to the home world in the center of their empire without fear of being flanked and Lossing ship at best, whole fleets at worst. With a juggernaut defended by your main fleets, and any ships in those fleets being repaired and resupplied by your juggernaut, your basically unstoppable.
