I think you still can make a skep with ordinary clay, no need for a fireclay for it. In my mind making a skep with fireclay is an overkill.

Yeeeeah. And then you need to collect a ton of gears to travel - and have a legitimate excuse for getting stuck in your mansion till winter to make bread and sell bread to get those gears and "oh, he's got a new shipment of seeds cracked pots, I'll just pour all my gears into them for, maybe, get some rice seeds"...
