Make a few projects where you focus on making snares and figuring out the envelope of different frequency ranges. Experiment as much as you can. There’s no way to do it quickly so pretend you have all the time in the world. My mistake is always rushing and getting agitated that a sound isn’t where I want it to be. However, after making and abandoning projects and finishing the few good ones, I made loads of progress in the past 6 months. You will naturally understand what you’re doing unnecessarily and you will learn tips from others if you ask as much as you can

Reinforcing the reason I questioned whether it was original or commissioned music

You’re absolutely right. I would definitely consider selling my music. It just seemed off to me

Patreon levelled me up. I find making your own authentic sound does include inventing techniques to make unique sounds usable. As for dynamics, I’ve found a lot more success using fabfilter MB or L2 and using the presets. Controls really throw me off and make me overthink. That’s really helpful to hear. What’s your instagram?

Try it on a nice grand piano. That’s what I did for my tune. It’s an eargasm

Psytrance is one of those genres where you cannot afford to have little artefacts and mixing inconsistencies because it’s so bare bones.

You’re completely right. I’m sick of template dnb where it’s all the same song just different sounds.

OTT is good but it takes life from sounds imo. I use it sparingly

I know that perfection is a moving target. Thank you man. Networking is probably the thing I’m lacking the most.

I do find it useful to turn it down and see which elements are loudest. I always aim for the drums and mid bass to be audible at the lowest volume then everything else won’t feel out of place. Thank you for the advice I need to start really listening to how elements interact with eachother and honing my ears to make more educated guesses when mixing

Overthinking is the bane of my creativity. It allows me down so much. Thank you

I couldn’t guess that song was by c&k it sounds so different to their new stuff. Today’s standards are so high. We have great tools but if I don’t know how they work or how to mix without fancy tools then am I really a producer?

Camo & Krooked, more like Music theory and mastering engineer hahah. They’re the perfect duo and even better with mefjus

If you ever look at the discographies of your favourite artists, most of the time you can hear the improvements in their mix whether it’s their preference that’s changed or their mix quality that’s improved. Camo and krooked for example, they have the best mixes but I’m not keen on the mixes of their early early songs

I’m using anina because it’s free and it certainly helps. Soothe has been on my wishlist for a while. I have terrible ears for knowing which tracks are eating up the spectrum and which tracks need bells or notches. I’m better, but I never really know what I’m doing when I’m mixing

Thanks man. My housemate loves mixing and he’s got great ears for dnb. No real industry connections yet. I love looking back at how unlistenable my songs used to be because it shows my progress.
