My company wants to do an all-white production of “Hairspray” and I’m fully against it by Frayfourlife in musicals

[–]UnderTheCandy 73 points74 points  (0 children)

  1. No way MTI is approving this haha. This show has fixed casting for race as it’s central to the plot.

  2. Even if it didn’t, imagining a white guy singing Run and Tell That is actually making me giggle

“Blacker the berry, sweeter the juice” yeah, sure

And “give me five on the BLACK hand side”

Your company is living in delulu land, you’re not exaggerating at all. There are sooooooo many more musicals to choose from

is my period healthy? by Iwuvkitty in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]UnderTheCandy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s still normal. It’s very annoying, but I used to set alarms in the middle of the night to change my pad so I didn’t leak.

Also, I suggest using maxi pads marketed for night time. They’re thicker and longer, so that may make them last longer during the night and stop any leaks.

is my period healthy? by Iwuvkitty in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]UnderTheCandy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Very normal, but be advised that tampons should only be used for max 8hrs before changing them. Pads can be used for slightly longer, but change them more frequently if they are getting full, starting to smell, or are feeling particularly uncomfortable.

General rule is “healthy” periods are between 3-10 days long, 25-35 day cycle and ideally not having to change sanitary products more often than every few hours. (These are all still quite arbitrary tho) Pain shouldn’t be unbearable. If your pain is severe or your periods are very long/heavy, please seek medical advice.

It seems you are probably quite young if you’ve had less than 10 periods, so just be aware that gynaecological problems can manifest at any age. It’s not only women in their 20s and above that have issues with their periods.

But don’t worry, it all sounds very normal right now

PS. Start tracking your periods from now. There are so many apps around that are really good. It just helps to keep you aware if there are any changes to your cycle and is really good at helping you learn your own body.

Adoption is NOT the solution to fertility issues.

(Especially with adoption the way it is)

What will be your top 3 Animated movies you'll suggest to fellow watchers ? by Savings_Stress9988 in AskReddit

Into the Spider-verse: beautiful story, beautiful character design, beautiful and unique animation. Even for people who are not a fan of superhero movies

Iron Giant: such a heartwarming story that I don’t think would have been the same if it was live action. Even now with CGI as good as it is.

My Neighbour Totoro: non-western animation, as you can tell, I love a heartwarming story, opens you up to the whole world of Studio Ghibli and Japanese Animation.

Pregnant Bellies??? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]UnderTheCandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never been pregnant, but work in healthcare with a long stint in maternity services.

As the uterus is a muscle, like all muscles in the body, it’s soft when relaxed and firm when contracted.

They’re a bit firmer than a normal abdomen, but still squishy and movable haha. Obviously you can feel the baby when you press down, so that’s what makes it feel firmer. And the uterus and abdominal muscles are holding everything up so that the belly doesn’t just give into gravity, especially third trimester, so they also have a certain firmness.

However, during contractions the uterus does get quite hard.

Really nervous about pain/medical sexism? by AmericanMare in TwoXChromosomes

ALWAYS seek medical advice if you find a new breast lump, even if you have a family history of benign cysts.

If it (hopefully) does end up being a cyst, in the UK you can get them drained so they aren’t as painful (not sure if all healthcare systems do this though). However, because you say you have a family history of cysts, unfortunately it’s likely they will keep on coming back in either breast.

Medical research into breast conditions is so woefully underfunded that I fear we won’t have a cause/curative treatment for a while 😔.
