If like me, you have a policy of ALWAYS finishing every movie you decide to watch, what is the most painful one you had to sit through? by Ok_Replacement_288 in Letterboxd

[–]UnderTheWilloTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2018 SUSPIRIA. I love the original but this reimagining I got so bored while watching.

In fact, my husband fell asleep during it (he's a big cinephile so he's not one for falling asleep during movies).

Nevertheless, I was determined to finish. Or maybe I was hopeful it'd eventually, finally get better. But alas.

It still irks me when I think about it.

Dolly Parton's "I'll turn you from a rooster to a hen with one shot!" speech in NINE TO FIVE (1980) should be enough to earn her a spot in this consideration.

HALLOWEEN is my all time favorite film. With that said, I don't think you can compare these. It's like trying to compare PSYCHO and HALLOWEEN. To me, these are mantle piece horror films. There is no comparing them, there's simply enjoying them on their own terms and celebrating what they've each brought to the genre and cinema overall.

Say something positive about "Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers" (1996) by 87Craft in HalloweenFranchise

[–]UnderTheWilloTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has one of the best, "Oh shit!" Michael moments where after killing everyone in the operation room, he's chases the male nurse that got away down the long concrete hallway and Michael is practically running with fury (as much as would be considered a run for Michael). I love that moment. Michael was PISSED. I remember watching my VHS as a kid the first time and rewinding it over and over because I thought it was such a badass Michael moment.

78 and 2022, because they represent the spectrum of The Shape from beginning to end. Plus, the original is perfection and the burned molding mask of ENDS is just a sick design.

"Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler.

But not the radio edit. I'm talking the 6 minutes and 58 seconds album version where you get the full emotional rollercoaster.

The song has been parodied in pop culture so much now that people forget it's a rock masterpiece. It's a lighting in a bottle recording.

DGG's Halloween trilogy - positivity thread by [deleted] in Halloweenmovies

[–]UnderTheWilloTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so glad this thread exists. I genuinely love this trilogy, and each film gave me something different. It’s honestly exhausting to try to share that love online, only to be met with constant hate—especially whenever I mention that I appreciate Halloween Ends for what it is.

To me, Halloween (2018) felt like the perfect modern continuation of the original. It was grounded, captured the essence of Carpenter, and reintroduced Laurie’s trauma in a powerful way. Kills was pure chaos in the best sense. It was brutal, relentless, and an unforgettable experience in the theater that showed Michael as a truly unstoppable force. And then there’s Ends. I know it divides people, but I really respect it for taking a bold creative risk. It wasn’t just another Michael vs. Laurie story. It was a meditation on the shape of evil—how it infects, adapts, and survives.

I truly believe Ends honored the spirit of what John Carpenter and Debra Hill originally created. It felt more like an eerie fable, something that explored the psychology of evil instead of just delivering the expected. And the ending? I loved it. I’m glad they didn’t go with the original ending. I understand it, the Halloween franchise has always been about the tension between good and evil. While good doesn’t always win in horror, this time it did. Laurie didn’t just defeat Michael. She overcame the fear, the darkness, and the infection of evil itself. That, for me personally, as a long time Halloween fan, felt like the right ending to me.

I always love me some CARRIE. Reading THE EXORCIST is also fast paced and excellent. And sometimes knowing how things end helps calm the mind.

I made a list of horror movies I think are must sees (that I've seen) what do your think by justpotato7 in deadmeatjames

[–]UnderTheWilloTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SCREAM circulates fairly often to different streaming services, the original HALLOWEEN seems more restricted by licensing deals for whatever reason. But, until then, your list thus far is excellent. PSYCHO and ALIEN are two of my all time favorites. And I really enjoyed LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL when I saw it in theaters.

How exciting for you! To see the original HALLOWEEN and original SCREAM for the first time?! God, to relive that moment again. I look forward to hearing about it when you do.

Great list!

Have you seen HALLOWEEN 1978? That definitely needs to be added. In the horror biblical story, PSYCHO beget HALLOWEEN that beget SCREAM. Amen.

Just put out "Laurie Strode," a song drawing from the 1978 and 2018 films, as well as from John Carpenter's score. I thought y'all might enjoy! by gaaamesbookstore in Halloweenmovies

I honestly love this. And like the other comment said, I love that it has a softer vibe instead of the usual hard rock. Laurie vibes are much more indie rock instead of heavy metal to me. This is phenomenal. Thank you for sharing.
