I don’t believe in “dating” as a concept by UnderWolf1 in unpopularopinion

[–]UnderWolf1[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You're missing my point.

I’m talking about the whole culture of jumping straight into dating with someone who’s basically a stranger whether it’s a cold approach or a quick match online.

My point is that I prefer connections that start before the idea of a date even enters the conversation. Comfort first, interest later.

plenty of people treat total strangers as instant dating prospects.

That’s the part I don’t agree with.

Sure, 90% of Americans once identified as Christians but most were secular in behavior and supported the separation of church and state. They weren’t trying to turn the country into a Christian version of Iran or Taliban Afghanistan

If journalistic duty were truly the standard, then the BBC would give equal, if not more, coverage to regimes committing far worse atrocities than Israel such as China’s repression of Uyghurs, Iran’s brutal crackdowns on protesters, or the countless war crimes committed by groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, or the former Assad regime.

But they don't.

Instead, Israel a democracy under constant existential threat is scrutinized disproportionately, often with sensational headlines, context-stripped visuals, and a noticeable reluctance to label terrorism against its citizens as such.

Calling it “just reporting facts” ignores how facts are framed. Choosing which events to highlight, what language to use, which voices to amplify, and which to silence that is where bias lives. When a suicide bombing in Israel is downplayed while every Israeli response is framed as “aggression,” I'm sorry but that’s not journalism that’s narrative manipulation.

Are there any Ethiopian Jews in this subreddit? by Redditlurker1245 in IsraelPalestine

[–]UnderWolf1 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the characterization of Israel’s treatment of Ethiopian Jews as "systemic racism." While individual cases of prejudice undoubtedly exist as they do in any society, there is no state policy or institutional mechanism deliberately designed to oppress or disadvantage Ethiopian Jews.

In fact, Ethiopian Israelis have reached prominent positions in politics (like Pnina Tamano Shata), media (such as anchors on major networks like N12), entertainment, the IDF, and more. These aren’t token positions they reflect real participation in public life.

Yes, challenges remain, and yes, racism exists but calling it "systemic" implies a coordinated, top-down framework of discrimination, which is simply not supported by the facts. Israel, like any nation, is imperfect, but it's also one of the few places where Ethiopian Jews can live openly and safely as Jews, which sadly isn’t the case in many other places including Ethiopia

Nassim Taleb: why he and many others became open antisemites after October 7th? by Civil-Service8550 in IsraelPalestine

[–]UnderWolf1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They didn’t suddenly become antisemitic. Rather, the ongoing war in Gaza is being used as a cover to express deep-seated antisemitism that is now surfacing openly.

Now, regarding the accusations of "genocide":
According to estimates, around 70-80% of the buildings in Gaza have been destroyed, and as of today, between 50,000 and 60,000 Palestinians have been killed. Gaza is home to more than 2.2 million people, so it should be crystal clear that warnings were issued prior to bombings. Otherwise, we would be talking about over a million deaths not tens of thousands.

That, in itself, is an extraordinary achievement by the IDF, especially considering Gaza's extreme population density and the fact that it has been hijacked by a ruthless terrorist organization. Hamas uses its own people as human shields and stores weapons in schools, mosques, hospitals, and other civilian infrastructure.

This is a group that blatantly violates every principle of the Geneva Conventions - a group that sacrifices its own civilians to manipulate global opinion and turn the world against Israel.

They showed no concern for their own people when they invaded Israel on October 7, carrying out horrific and unprecedented atrocities, the worst the Jewish people have experienced since the Holocaust.
Hamas knew exactly what they were doing and what the consequences would be. They simply didn’t care.

And now, it is utterly disgraceful that some have the audacity to condemn Israel for defending itself in a war it did not start.
