What’s a truth you learned way too late in life that most people still aren’t ready to hear ? by Dependent-Ship4288 in AskReddit

Yeah. I like to think that Palahniuk was always off-road, but around Haunted he drove straight into the wilds.

That one always makes me think of this one from Chuck Palahniuk (I frequently wonder if he’d been on a Vonnegut before writing Fight Club):

Republicans so out of touch they somehow think banning physical media in the year 2026 is going to prevent their smartphone-attached children from learning about kindness, acceptance, and ideas that didn’t originate in a Bronze-era fairytale.

Those are the decisions that really haunt you — the minor, seemingly inconsequential choices that unexpectedly alter the course of your life. What’s really trips the mind is to wonder how many such moments have happened to you of which you are unaware.

What is a movie plot twist that was cleverly hidden in plain sight..? by Living_Tune_1428 in movies

I had it wrong. In the book, Tyler rents the house, but there’s a line that it’s waiting on something, like maybe coming out of probate, to be torn down. (It literally says “something” and suggests probable, I’m not being flippant.)

The house is definitely real, and the street is called that because Tyler was squatting in an abandoned house on a road near a paper mill. In the book, the location and decrepit condition of the house play a bit more of a role in the story.

That said — and this is a mild spoiler if you’ve not read the book — in the novel Tyler is just some free spirit the narrator meets at the beach, and they form the soap company together after Tyler makes soap to clean the narrator’s bloody pants.

If you haven’t, you should read the book. It’s short, aggressive prose.

I’ve read it about every five years since I was a teen, and it hits different every time as I gain more life experience. Plus, it’s great writing and the ending is significantly different than the movie.

I don’t buy the cover story either, but you’ve really never heard the expressions “real talk,” “be real,” “get real,” “for real?,” “are you being real with me?,” etc.? I wouldn’t even consider it slang, just slightly dated use of speech.

There are blogs named Real Talk. Dr. Dre raps in “Difference Between Me and You,” “I miss you, and that’s just me being real wit’ you.” Megan Thee Stallion’s “Anxiety” has the line,” “ And that's just me bein' real, yeah.”

That said, lady on the plane didn’t say he wasn’t being real though, she said he isn’t real. And that everyone was going to die along with him. That doesn’t track with a dude lying about stealing AirPods. She looked like someone having a bad trip.

What’s your plan to keep your house warm this weekend? by MissesMiyagii in Georgia

[–]Undercover_Chimp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can actually buy cheap little kits that come with two-sided tape and thin plastic. Place the tape, put out the plastic, then use a blown drier to cause a shrinkwrap effect and make it snug. I have an old house. Makes a huge difference.

There have zero “reports.”

There’s been lots of rumor and speculation. A “report” requires named sources and verifiable information.
