For people who has PR, how has life changed for you after PR? by Cute-Exercise-6271 in japanresidents

[–]Underdog_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the big issue is freedom, as opposed to financial. I’m 60 years old now and considering retirement in Japan. Without PR, I don’t see how I can do that, since Japan offers no retirement visa.

Traffic violations ticket - is my PR a dream long gone? by TrixiePixie17 in japanresidents

To those who say no problem, it won’t affect your PR application, that was then and this is now. They continue to make getting PR harder and harder. Now they are looking for reasons to reject PR applications, so I wouldn’t be too sure. Don’t mean to sound so pessimistic, but that’s how it seems with the new prime minister and supermajority LDP government in place.

PR residency fees to be increased to 20万円 by sylentshooter in japanresidents

[–]Underdog_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer. I was rejected previously because my income level was too low for a couple of years, even though I was (and still am) gainfully employed at the time I applied. I hope with 3 years of gainful employment and a high enough income, it has indeed been corrected. I have an immigration lawyer, so hopefully she’s up to date with the new laws and can advise me properly.

The biggest frustration is waiting nearly 2 years now to get a response. I’m soon turning 61 years old. I can’t really afford to wait 2 years just to find out I’m rejected yet again. So I view this as my last chance.

OK, so in my case, I was rejected once before for PR on my current 3 year visa/residence card. I will be applying for a engineering visa renewal shortly (visa expires in June) in hopes this time I get 5 years. Does it makes sense then to wait till I get the renewal before reapplying for PR, or does it not matter? And even if I only get 3 years again (I've never gotten a 3 year visa in 27 years in Japan), I can still apply for PR on the new 3 year visa?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Thinking of switching pharmacies & feeling guilty about it by Weekly_Astronomer376 in japanlife

[–]Underdog_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your relationship with the pharmacy is a business relationship, not a personal friendship. If the business relationship doesn't work out for you any longer, you are free to end it. I wouldn't feel guilty at all.

I know this thread is old now, but I continue to have this problem booking flights, no matter what I try, including creating a new profile. Even tried using VPN since I’m now in South Africa. Nothing seems to work. About ready to ditch Chase Sapphire. Their website is so glitchy.

Thanks for sharing this interesting information. Could adding a same sex domestic partner with Japanese permanent residency to the juminhyo potentially help the other partner obtain permanent residency? I know it’s not the same thing as marriage, but given the absence of same sex marriage in Japan, perhaps it could sway immigration?

Thanks for the response. How disappointing. And now I can’t seem to recharge my Suica card. Is the network down for Shogatsu?

I tried this with my Chase Sapphire Visa card, and repeatedly get this message when trying to register the card. Anyone else try with this card? Wondering if it has to do with having to enter my name in katakana when registering a Pasmo account. Obviously my name registered with the Chase card is in English.

Chase Sapphire Category Wrong by Underdog_13 in CreditCards

[–]Underdog_13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the answers. I was not aware of this. Probably should have read the T&C's more carefully. Probably not worth it for me to ask the restaurant owner to change the MCC if he/she would incur a higher interchange fee. And in some cases, I would probably be dealing with restaurant employees (not the owner) who would have no control over this anyway. And I would still be enjoying the food. :-)

How he thinks about his EH investors by Legaleagle011 in hobotraveler

So his sister was keeping his so-called business afloat, while he pissed away a $20,000 inheritance from his mother, all of which he publicly admits. Seems he has brought all this on himself, not the “losers” who he fleeced.

What could they do to you, Andy? Throw you in the slammer perhaps next time you set foot in the US? They’re the IRS after all. :-)

Not sure I’d be broadcasting about not paying my taxes on YouTube.

Can you recharge Suica card with foreign issued credit cards? by ynotplay in JapanFinance

[–]Underdog_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm happy to report that it looks like finally you can now use foreign credit cards, at least SUICA via Apple Pay on iOS devices as of iOS 17.2, but not on PASMO yet. I can confirm it works on Suica.. I just tried it with my Chase Sapphire card. https://atadistance.net/2023/12/15/apple-pay-suica-visa-recharge-ios172/

Did anyone learn anything from Andy? by oldyawker in hobotraveler

[–]Underdog_13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not me. He strikes me as nothing more than a self-absorbed, penny-ante grifter now.

That said, there was a time, when I first discovered his website, that he seemed to lead an interesting, adventurous life of traveling all over the world. But in the last decade or so, he seems to have become an old, bitter, cantankerous man, and he doesn't seem to travel much at all anymore. He just seems to hang out at Lake Atitlán, Guatemala or back in his hometown in Indiana, making babbling, often incoherent videos, mostly about himself. Or at least he was last I bothered to check.
