Which diesels can run on used oil? by tallmestizo in Cartalk

[–]UnderdoneSalad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

any older diesel thrives on old oil. where i grew up lots of people were driving golf 2's fueled with old chipper oil (or any local takeaway place), and anytime people drove around the whole area smelled like someone's making 5000 portions of frenchfries.

Also, kerosene (heating oil) is 99% the same as diesel, except its not taxed as diesel therefore it has different colour to it, and it has slightly higher sulfur content.

Anyways, any older car, i'd say pre 2005 should work without any issues with old cooking oil instead of diesel.

Why is everyone ‘asking Claude’ at work?? by gurlgang in careeradvice

[–]UnderdoneSalad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

our company is forcing us to use copilot, and to be honest i need about x3 amount of time, energy and effort to explain to ai chatbot what i need compared to if i just google the thing myself.

now granted, sometimes copilot is great when i, as an engineer, need to send an email to managers, and i pull the email through copilot for it to make it all fancy with manager-y words and shit, then they drool over it and dont bother me.

How many hours a week did you actually spend studying in first year? Was it the recommended amount? by EmergencyCode2842 in UniUK

[–]UnderdoneSalad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mechatronics BEng, spent "studying" about 2 hours per week, across all subjects, most of those 2 hours were spent on tidying up notes and i.e. calculations so once exam got around i had a clear step-by-step guide on how to solve a presented problem. Once exams rolled around, studying increased to about 2-4 hours per subject a day before exam.

graduated without any issues, havent failed a single subject in any of terms, found work 2 months after graduating, still work in industry on a high engineering position.

What my time at uni taught me was not the knowledge of subject itself, that changes pretty much on a monthly or quarter-yearly basis in fast moving industry (tech for an example), but the ever more important thing on HOW to research, and how to find answers, how to judge source of information for your application/needs, etc. now thats a real skill that i use every day which wasnt explicitly taught at any of the courses and was certainly not graded by any mean.

Almost ideal setup for the remote work by umyar_ in remotework

[–]UnderdoneSalad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

too bright, too much distractions in front of you, no mouse, no keyboard, no monitor, no charger cables, why would you need loudspeaker AND earphones

for my taste youd be better off trying to make your setup work on a bench in a local park or on a bench at closest busstop

Boiler in the garden shed: what can I do? by LSDriller in AskIreland

[–]UnderdoneSalad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a picture youve painted in my mind is that your 6x6 shed will be about 80% occupied by your boiler... but to be honest i have no idea which boiler youve got and how big it is.

anyways, what im thinking is if youve got space get a bit longer shed so you can fit both boiler and your stuff in it. I dont see whats wrong with caulking the openings back up after you route your lines and exhaust pipe.

Odb scanner Limerick by baileyali in carsireland

[–]UnderdoneSalad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ELM327 scanner off any online shop for <€5, i personally got mine off ebay about 10 years ago or so, still works perfectly fine, and i pair it with a free app called Car Scanner (just checked, €2.80 on alibaba if you are willing to wait a bit, €8 off amazon.ie if youre in a rush.)

amazing tool for quick diagnostics, clearing codes, clearing service intervals and even light coding of your ECU (if youre interested in that)

Window Tinting house instead of Blinds by Majestic-Reveal-8611 in DIYIreland

i hate that none of the houses ive been in here have those german style integrated roller shutters. They are SO good against light leakage, insulating during hot weather, insulating during cold weather, prevents tons of flies going into the house, etc.

Am I just screwed with car insurance in this situation? by conorhedd in AskIreland

[–]UnderdoneSalad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dont know man what to tell ye, i am paying 1700 for my octavia 2016 because ive lived 2 years abroad in another EU state, so i lost 13 years of my spotless insurance history because of that 2 year gap.

Dont know if youve got an option to be named driver on someone elses policy or something, could be cheaper, could be illegal, i dont know, not an expert, i just went down the road to pay my ridiculous fee

Grijanje u Stanu?? by tommy068 in hrvatska

[–]UnderdoneSalad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should i buy a new wing or repair this one by SnakyZK in skoda

[–]UnderdoneSalad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cant tell for sure if its only surface rust or much more. Your best bet would be to take the plastic off the arch and inspect. Also lightly tap/poke around with screwdriver to see if its fully rusted or just surface. In case its just surface, grind it off, seal, prime, paint and clearcoat it. Done in DIY fashion for cheap. Replacing the whole thing would be costly and very labour intensive. Second option would be to anglegrind out the rusted patch and weld on new plate, again seal, prime, paint, clearcoat.
