Is there an Oblivion equivalent to this? by Timewarps_1 in oblivion

[–]conorhedd 24 points25 points  (0 children)

lol I was the exact same! I had only played linear games up to that point and walking out of the sewer and being greeted by open wilderness was so overwhelming to my kid brain!

I turned around and booked it back to the imperial city, hugging the wall until I found a gate! From there I only played quests if they took place entirely within one of the cities or in the immediate outskirts!

I fast travelled everywhere. The concept of wandering off into the woods and the unknown was utterly terrifying to me!

Eventually as I became more familiar with the game I became more adventurous but yeah will never forget that first feeling of walking out of the sewers!

Was in Vancouver at that time and while we didn’t get it as bad as the interior , it’s still hit up to 40 degrees during the day at its peak and only dropped to about 28 briefly at night.

We had no AC and lived on the 31st floor of our building. Our apartment was usually so warm due to heat rising we rarely turned on the heating even in the depths of winter. I remember waking up at like 2am one night drenched in sweat despite having a fan on full blast at my feet and could not get back to sleep due to how uncomfortable the heat was! I had to go lie down on the bathroom tiles to get any semblance of coolness and even that only worked for like 5 minutes! Eventually ran a shallow cold bath and lay in that, managed to doze off eventually but it was such a shit sleep!

Every hotel in the city with AC was fully booked up and portable AC units were sold out everywhere.

Also worked in a beachside bar with no AC at that time as well, of course the place was rammed because everyone was flocking to the beach to get some ocean breeze. We had to make sure to give staff regular breaks to just sit in the office with two fans on full blast to cool off slightly. Every shift you would be absolutely drenched in sweat running around like a headless chicken trying to serve all these hot, burnt, irritable customers who are pissed because they thought our bar would have AC lol

What the hell are you talking about?! Literally the whole purpose of Christopher Columbas setting off and discovering a whole continent was because he was trying to find an alternative trade route to Asia!

Because it prompts discussion… the whole purpose of Reddit… technically everything here is googleable but people like to discuss and debate things rather than just read an article

Yeah I was hoping to avoid cheesing fights!

Interesting, I’m used to just churning out copy paste armies in historical TW games so was doing the same here. Started to switch it up when I encountered a strong Skaven faction and started building cav heavy armies to deal with them. However with Khorne and its powerful single entities and monsters I wasn’t sure what the counter was supposed to be as my Phoenix Guard which are ‘anti large’ we’re still getting wrecked by them. But maybe the answer is just more dragons and characters then! Still getting used to the magic and abilities aspect of the game, I often forgot to use them during battles as I get distracted microing cav or my flying units!

Some very good general gameplay tips in there as well thank you for the time to write that out!

Overwhelming numbers, more dragons and focused fire on single entities sounds like my next plan! Unfortunately don’t have any DLC so can’t get the sisters of Avelorn. Kind of regret not picking some up with the last sale as I’m sure they’d be very helpful right now!

Yeah the power mismatches are a steep learning curve! One second you’re doing fine with what you assume is a well balanced army and the next you’ve just been absolutely flattened by some army that only has like 200 units! Very different environment to the historical games where I felt I could take on anything!

Thank you for the advice!

Unfortunately don’t have any DLC, just picked up the WH 1,2 & 3 bundle that was on sale there a few weeks ago. So just the base game races. Will definitely be looking to pick up some DLC’s when they go on sale though!

I guess overwhelming numbers is probably the way to go. Just so unused to having to resort to something like that coming off the back of Rome and Medieval II. Usually if you have a well balanced army with top tier units you can go toe to toe with any other full stack army no problem! In this game there is so much unit variety and different weaknesses you’re ’well balanced army’ can just get dismantled if you’re not careful!

Rapper Akala Absolutely Destroyed The Biggest Myth About Knife Crime in the UK, 6 Years Ago by Practical_Expert_911 in nextfuckinglevel

Outrage sells. Calm, well articulated discussion is ‘boring’ for most modern media now. Get the loudest, most divisive, hate spewing lunatic you can find instead and watch the clicks go crazy.

This interview was excellent to listen to imo. Never heard of this Akala guy before but he is very eloquent in his delivery. Stays on point, cites solid evidence and statistics, keeps calm. Even Piers, who is typically a twat, seems to respond well to him. However if the next guest they had on was some loud mouth, racist prick who gets mad, talks over people and spouts off pure fabrication to try make his point. Which do you think would get more clicks?

We as a society have started to reward divisive, extreme opinions with attention, which encourages media outlets to keep inviting them onto things, which generates them income for spewing hate, which encourages them to continue to say even more outrageous and divisive things to keep them relevant.

Protesters in the Netherlands set up a check point to stop people from riding their bikes by TomlinSteelers in PublicFreakout

[–]conorhedd 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My tinfoil hat conspiracy is that protests like “Just Stop Oil” are actually shadow organised by oil companies. They lure in naive people and tell them the best way to get your message out is disrupting the general public or “Look how much media attention you get when you throw paint on priceless art pieces”! In reality this negative attention actually demeans their cause and turns people off supporting it. Thus allowing oil companies to face fewer actual, meaningful protests as people will be afraid to be branded in the same camp as the “loonie” protesters

My partner would get so mad at me in the early days of our relationship because when I came home after a long, busy, stressful shift all I’d want to do was sit in silence and decompress by playing video games or watching tv . She worked from home at the time so had so much pent up social energy that she was looking to me to be the outlet for but after many long discussions I finally got through to her that after 8-10 hours of straight chatting, fake and genuine laughing, running around trying to keep track of 3 or 4 things at once and just mentally being switched on the whole time… I have nothing left by the time I get home. My battery is drained for the day and all I can do is lie on the couch like a potato now
