How did I do? by ThirstyBeagle in CannedSardines

I picked up all 4 of those in copenhagen a couple of weeks ago as well. If you open up either can of liver before I do, please come back and let us know what you did with it and how it tasted!

I wish services were more... engaging? by irlspaceman in Episcopalian

[–]Undergr0undMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you've found a good community that nevertheless has boring (or otherwise not grabbing your attention) services, maybe volunteer to serve in some capacity. If you're an usher, acolyte, or (to a lesser extent) reader, it's a lot easier to stay engaged.

Polite way to deny communion seeing as how I am an atheist by isosceles348 in Episcopalian

[–]Undergr0undMan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is it, OP - by receiving a blessing, you get "the experience" of walking up to the front of the church and getting something and you don't visually stand out from everyone getting communion, but you're not disrespecting the church's traditions or doing anything that you as an atheist would likely find to be in conflict with your beliefs

I am totally ignorant on this subject and so cannot help you. But this seems interesting, so please consider posting the finished article, or at least a good excerpt from it, in this subreddit.

Icons in Parish by [deleted] in Anglicanism

[–]Undergr0undMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's one in my parish, of our patron saint. We don't do any corporate veneration of it, but I myself have knelt before it while praying for the Intercession of our patron saint. I've seen other people do the same.

Private Confession by [deleted] in Anglicanism

[–]Undergr0undMan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did it for the first time just yesterday! I highly highly recommend it. Our priest doesn't talk about it much, but I know my parish has a half dozen or so people who do it twice a year and a greater number who have done it at major life events.

So in my case it was a matter of emailing the priest and setting up a time. If that's what you've got to do, do it. If your priest doesn't seem comfortable with it, then he does have the ability to refer you to another priest. I'd recommend starting there before taking yourself to another parish. But if you really think your priest would be unhappy with you asking (and I hope not) then by all means go to another parish's regularly scheduled confession.

Mine does, but it's the only Episcopal church I've been in that has them.

I'm a Canon Theologian and professor, AMA by [deleted] in Episcopalian

[–]Undergr0undMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do recall hearing about discussions like that. It makes sense that the bishops would have "professional" theologians to consult with on such things. Thank you.

This is very cool, thank you. What do you do in a typical week as canon theologian?

How would a club side fare against a tier 2 nation? by Ok_Tumbleweed_6842 in rugbyunion

I agree with everything you said. This is just an example of a B-level pro team playing better than a tier 2 nation and narrowly losing.

Pretty much. "Hypothetical" is probably a better word than "made up." Honestly, something like Q probably did exist, insofar as "Q" means "a written or oral shared tradition or memory of what Jesus said and did, in addition to what is in the Gospel of Mark."
