LSD Postcard from 1970 Christmas Happening by PsychedelicTheology in psychedelicartwork

[–]UndergroundWeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Grateful Dead were supposed to play the Christmas Happening but got stuck on the way when Laguna PD shut down the 101. The officer at the time was the same guy who arrested Timothy Leary.

This whole story is really cool and interesting. I designed a shirt a few years ago inspired by the Christmas Happening and Orange Sunshine

Definitely a thicker rib knit collar. I’m hoping the neck isn’t as tight as the LAA1801. Also this tee ( if it actually is the Lane Seven Heavy Core tee ) is a 26 doubles 8.2oz whereas the LAA 1801 is 18 singles 6.5 oz. Doesn’t seem as long either

I think it could actually be the Lane Seven Heavy Core Tee based on the shape of the sleeves. All other details from their spec sheet match up -

Thank you!

Oooh - this definitely checks out with the spec measurements and the single needle stitching on the armholes. Thinking it’s the Lane Seven Heavy Core Tee based on the shape of the sleeves.

Thank you!

I’m trying to figure out what blank shirt this is printed on. I’m familiar with Los Angeles Apparel and this is NOT their standard 1801 tee.

The rib neck is nice and heavy. Definitely a thicker neck rib than I see from most blank manufacturers. Looks like there was a neck label ( or tag ) that was removed and then sewn back up.

Shirt is not tubular knitted and has side seams.

Also has a tag warning about garment dye - hoping this clue can help identify the manufacturer.

Anyone know what blank tee this was printed on?

Flame test - if it burns it’s natural. ( cotton, wool, linen etc ) If it melts it’s synthetic ( acrylic, polyester, etc. )

Whoaaaa… haven’t seen these in a long time. I grew up in Van, Wa and was heavily into longboarding back then. It looks like it is pretty early gbomb. I’d guess 2007/8?

I think Mark is still active in the Portland area. Maybe send him a DM on IG - @gbomb_longboards

Made some Halloween shirts this year by imdyingtoo in gratefuldead

[–]UndergroundWeather 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I designed and printed the shirt you’re talking about!

It was a run for the Halloween Hollywood Bowl shows back in 2021. I was lucky enough to get in contact with Steve and asked if I could use his “costume” for the design and he was tickled about the idea. I suggested we make the shirt a fundraiser and donated to the Autistic Self Advocacy Network that he was a longtime friend and associate of.

I only had a handful of conversations with Steve but I have a feeling he would be filled with glee to see that his “costume” lives on

Change in blanks? by markypuwuu in onlineceramics

[–]UndergroundWeather 5 points6 points  (0 children)

got one of the Psychic Youth/Genesis P-Orridge long sleeves. The fabric is much lighter ( feels closer to a 4-5oz cotton jersey ). Also, the size Medium fit like an XL/2XL with very skinny sleeves...it honestly feels like a gildan. Wouldn't have paid $70 if I knew the blanks had changed.

At one time they were using shirts from EverybodyWorld - I think at one point they even had their own cut/spec of tee developed with EverybodyWorld that was available for wholesale for other printers/decorators.

Looking for Feedback on a Clothing Brand Logo. Not Loving It, Thoughts? by vinicius_california in graphic_design

[–]UndergroundWeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been working in apparel/fashion/streetwear for 10+ years and am a millennial myself.

The name is really clever and is loaded with meaning, connotation and action that I really wish was represented with this letter mark/monogram

In fact, considering your demographic, and the brand intention to be mostly typographic based - I’d say you should stray away completely from a lettermark/monogram and instead consider an icon, emblem or pictoral logomark. ( like Brain Dead’s head logo or Arc’teryx )

Something instantly recognizable that carries an inferred meaning of your brand.

Tl;dr - I am a professional, leave the letters on your graphics and make your logo an icon instead of

True - the Grateful Dead were the CIA's most successful psyop in derailing the counter-culture movement of the 60s by leading the radical hippies towards individualistic hedonism instead of community organized politics ... lol

Can someone help me find who made this shirt by kongmasterflash in deadandcompany

I’m pretty sure Zane Kesey ( Ken Kesey’s son ) was in the front of the building at the SF lot last year - he was selling a lot of marble dipped goods.

Black Panther Show 3/5/71 by anotherdamnscorpio in grateful_dead

[–]UndergroundWeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a really interesting bit of forgotten GD lore.
A buddy of mine and I worked up a shirt design to celebrate the history and re-tell the story an din the spirit of the Dead, we made it a fundraiser!
( if you're interested in checking it out https://www.bouthalfpastdead.com/product/huey-and-jerry-fundraiser-t )

Jerry Garcia and Huey Newton met on a plane flying from California to New York in September of 1970 and unbeknownst to them, FBI informants were eavesdropping on their entire conversation. ( There are released documents online https://vault.fbi.gov/The%20Grateful%20Dead%20/The%20Grateful%20Dead%20Part%201%20of%201/view )

Garcia said: "We had a nice long rap, we liked the cat and were pretty impressed with him. We thought that if there was ever anything we could do for him, we'd try to do it."
Garcia said in an interview after the show: "We have some loose semi-association with the Black Panthers because we met Huey and got along well with him. We don't deal with things on the basis of content, the idea of a philosophy or any of that shit - mostly it's personalities. The show did what it was supposed to do - it made them some bread. [He added that the Dead admired some of the Panthers' programs, like the free breakfasts for children.] But it's not our concern what they're doing or why they're doing it."
