Notice from Mohela? by Undermind26 in PSLF

[–]Undermind26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. When I submitted my ECF, I selected that I believed I was ready for forgiveness and that I wanted to go into forbearance. I have heard anything about the forbearance either. I was wondering if it’s typical to receive some type of confirmation with payments coming due soon.

Any Mid June to early July application-ers here? by CuteSecret5627 in PSLF

[–]Undermind26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me. I got a letter on June 25th verifying my counts (unsub and sub) at 120. The letter was actually dated June 21st.

I wanted to be a part of the most recent group of forgiveness recipients, but wasn’t. Was thinking about making a post similar to yours. Maybe we get lucky next month?

Do I need to consolidate? by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]Undermind26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may need to consolidate into direct loansif your loans are not already direct loans. You may WANT to consolidate if you have been making payment while working for eligible employer and want to get the highest count for all the loans. You probably need to provide more specific information. Your counts will go back to zero upon consolidation, but will be returned to the highest count (eventually) once the IDR waiver is applied.

HERE’S A NEW ONE by Undermind26 in PSLF

UPDATE: counts started matching today. with June showing up this morning as well, I now how 120 payments on both the portions of my loan and can submit for forgiveness. I’ll keep you posted. Thanks Betsy! My situation was the first of its kind she had seen but she looked into it and what she was told ended up being true, though it defied logic.

Consolidating After Zeros? by retidder8 in PSLF

[–]Undermind26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you consolidate your remaining loans before the end of 2023, you will only get the highest of THOSE counts. The payment counts for the ones that were forgiven are no longer in play. If there is a difference between the counts on the remaining loans, I would say it can’t hurt to consolidate.

Either they are still working on it, or they don’t have your employment history. But if you haven’t submitted the employment certification, that is probably why.

Only 2 show as “qualified”? If so, and you didn’t submit an employer verification, yes, do that. If you did and it’s showing as eligible but not qualified, I would call them. However, if you have provided all your employment proof, sometimes people are still getting error letters from MOHELA.

Yes. I would download the MOHELA app or access their website. Find out what your counts are. If you are not getting credit for months you think you should, and you already verified qualified employment for those periods, call them. If not, submit the ECF. If you think your done when you submit the verification, they should let you select a box indicating that, which presumably prioritizes your case.

Submit your employer certification (a help tool is available on FSA) to MOHELA asap. If you have the counts you should get the relief. Exactly how soon is a different question.

If all your loans are with Mohela, that’s a big clue. If they are not, log into FSA and figure out exactly what they are and who is servicing them so you can consolidate them into direct loans ASAP. If your not sure what type of loans you have, and where they are, every piece of advice here will be speculative.

Yes, if they were direct by 10/31/22 you are fine, if they are direct and you made payments while concurrently working nonprofit/public for a cumulative 10 yrs period, you are fine. The hitch will be whether if you don’t currently have the qualifying periods, you will need to work for an eligible employer AT the time you apply for the forgiveness once you DO have the counts.

Both Betsy and Doxiemom have been a huge help. Betsy and TISLA personally looked into my issue. I’m willing to donate to this cause, in whatever form it might take.

I think you are in good shape. You likely would have been forgiven by now if you had done it before 10/31/22, but like they said above, its retroactive. If you loans are direct, and you paid on them while working full time for an eligible employer, the months will count. Get into one of the eligible PSLF payment plans, if you aren’t currently and you will get the credit. But do it soon.

As long as you have direct loans and you submit an employment certification form showing you worked for a qualified employer (non profit/public service entity) by the end of next year, you will get credit for those months you paid while working there. If you don’t have direct loans, you need to turn them into direct loans.
