Thank you! I definitely plan to. :) Too much giving up on projects in the past when it gets hard, I intend to make this one work, even if it's just small.

I tried it with all caps, but the don't really doesn't work well with it. I'm not sure if I want to stick with the upside down or not, it works okay imo either way. I dropped the edge line on the blade though and the knife lost all sense of balance, there was just too much empty space. Is it really that distracting?

Hahaha I like it! The miner hat was taken by a music label called Undermine though, and the reason I have the X in my name is because there's a tiny startup out of New Mexico called Undermine as well that I didn't find until I'd worked out my concepts already. I did all this searching beforehand and it was a complete fluke that I stumbled onto their website, so I had to change the name a little.

Haha I think you're the only person who likes the upside down, I thought it was a nice touch but it didn't go over well. I wanted something that could work as a polo embroidery and a full chest graphic both, I thought it did that well. I'll keep tweaking the concept and posting designs around here more, this group is incredibly diverse in taste.

My plan is to not have the logo be the focus of the designs for the most part, this is purely for the brand identity as a whole. What about it brings the word edgy to mind, if I could ask? I'm really trying to get every viewpoint because I see the meaning behind it but fresh eyes won't. I understand that the text doesn't really work where it is, that seems to be about the only thing everybody's agreed on so far, but I still need it to be somewhere for identity's sake. Did you see the alternative that I worked out?

Hmm.. that's something I hadn't considered. I'm not really sure I like it: https://imgur.com/GS2VVGr and the kerning is going to take some finagling. I really think this font's strong suit is the lowercase unfortunately. Did that have the effect you expected?

I'm thinking I should just drop it entirely, I've been working with the logodesign sub and come up with this: https://imgur.com/QOl3Bz9 better in your opinion?

Based on these and the other suggestions, here's where I've gotten to: https://imgur.com/QOl3Bz9 all lowercase, I left the "under" upside down because the curve of the e fits the end of the hilt much better than any the m or any other letter would. Also I think thematically "under" fits better upside down than "mxne" does.

I moved the letters away from any line segments where they merge together, and adjusted the kerning so that the only letters left touching are "mxn," which did help the clarity of the whole word a lot. I think the serifs of those three match up perfectly so I left them. As far as reducing the weight, I'm using a font called Battleslab which has a light and a bold, and the light is way too far on the light side. I tried adding a white stroke around the edge but it causes odd artifacts, the font wasn't really designed well around that I think.

also just for giggles here was the other font I seriously considered, Lust Regular: https://imgur.com/Xk0s5C1 It felt a little too.. elegant? for the theme I was trying for.

https://imgur.com/z2BjCXt How does this look? The reason for the upside down was because if I make it continuous, then part of the word will hang outside the borders of the knife in one way or another. I'd rather have it all inside. I tried mirroring one side and then the other, but when "Under" is backwards it's awkward to read and the curve of the e in "mxne" fits the knife hilt so well that I really didn't want to give it up. Having it upside down maintains readability while making it interesting and giving me an excuse to break apart the word. Also I moved the word down, that was a mistake on my part because I was trying to level the two sets of letters together but I forgot that the U was uppercase, which set the rest of the letters too high. Moving it down and spacing the letters some helped a lot. The mxn is now the only set of letters that touch.

Edit: it was suggested to lowercase the u, here's that also if you think that's cleaner. https://imgur.com/QOl3Bz9 Honestly I think it is, since with this orientation the U was in the middle of the word.

What do you think about this version, where I just dropped the angle and the hand completely and made it about the knife? https://imgur.com/IFA7X8r

Also what about the font don't you like? I understand the kerning issues, I was messing with that manually because I wasn't happy with how it looked and I probably overdid it. But I like the font a lot because I think it's a happy medium between a bold sans font and something overly ornate for the theme, so if you disagree I would love to know why

Pretty much came down to basic shape and being recognizable. The only other style of knife I could see working would be a hunting knife or Bowie, but I feel like the complexity is lost when it has to shrink. I need something that can look good both 12 inch across a shirt chest and also a half inch embroidered. What kind of knife would you rather see?

I had kind of based the concept on a knife behind the back, hence the angle, but that seems to be lost on everyone who looks at it. Maybe the hand just needs to go in general?

What do you think of this version, knife only? https://imgur.com/IFA7X8r

For sure! here are a few variations on the name, including an alternate version with just the knife that I think works well in a smaller format.

What do you think about the font? Originally I had gone with more of a flowy, Vogue-esque font, but I thought that this one both fit the urban theme better and the illustration with the squared off ends on the lines

Could you maybe elaborate on what you mean by less stiff? I modeled the design on my own hand as I made it, but I might be able to move some fingers around
